Wookie aka Big Mac hit 340 squat, 150 bench, 302.5 deadlift for a few Commonwealth Powerlifting records in the Juniors - the guy's 22 still!

Awesome work bro! A big future in both PLing & Strongman awaits!

Nate

PS - a lot of other good lifts including masters 3 records to G. Fletcher. Will post details when I know more.

Squat and deadlift on a different planet to me ... very impressive for anyone regardless of age.

He's got a bit of work to do to catch his training partner's DL of 350 & his other training partners bench of 215ish, but he's owning the squats in Gillies Ave now!

Not bad for his first year of Powerlifting I reckon!

Lol, thanks for that Nate.

I train a bit at Mr N's gym, so all good there. :pfft:

Was pretty happy with how things went given that this was my 2nd meet.

My bench sucks for a variety of reasons! One is that I'm carrying a brachialis strain which was really ticking me off. If I bombed bench I would lose the squat record, so I was just being conservative. Coming from an olympic lifting background, I've not done much in the way of benching, so between march and now, I've managed to put around 40kg on my bench. Without the strain, I'd have been hoping for 170.

Best lifter of the meet was Steve Varga, hitting 335/217.5/300 weighing 110kg. Unfortunately 'Tonka' Simanu tore his quad and kept lifting, hitting 335/265/280, with close misses on 290 bench and 300 dl.

Totally. I said to one of the other Juniors (I've got till end of 2010 as a Jnr and hope to get comm dl rec at 335) that regardless of what him or myself do, MZ will break it. Some people are just flat out strong, and he's one of them.

BigMac gave everyone a squatting lesson at nats. He has huge potential and has the strength world at his feet - whether he decides to go Strongman, Highland Games, Powerlifting or back to Track/Field he will succeed.

We needn't be concerned about his bench, that will come up with more specific work and he knows that - especially if his interests are learning towards strongman, he will need good pressing power to make his mark on the international strongman scene.

Good job BM, you had a fantastic nationals debut!
