I had posted this in the Playground but it really does fit better here i guess

so here it is

Hi all

My fiance is taking meal replacement drinks while at work - he's in contruction and they are doing HEAVY work right now,

only eats at like 9pm for dinner.

The replacement is Myoplex mixed with water

I've heard bad things about this stuff - but i need more opinions,

OH and he's not listening to me AT ALL - shut right down

CUZ ya know i'm a nurse, been body building on and off most of my life and had people who are OBSESSED with fitness in my life my who life! - so i know NOTHING

sigh

ANyway - his sister who's borderline anorexic is the one who gave him this shit - and the guy he works with gave his stamp of approval so i need SOLID facts to help him see he needs MORE than just a drink to live healthy and lose weight....... HELP

i'm worried he'll get sick eating like this

Now to add to the end of this i'll mention that he' s LAZY when it comes to eating right - if i make it he'll eat it but won't go out of his way to make a dinner or snack for himself - sorry HEALTHY meal for himself

He says that he's too busy at work to stop to eat frequent meals so likes the crap ass shakes cuz well it's easy

i worked it out

and i believe that he's taking in about 1200 cals a day from the drinks and if he's really binging at dinner *which i don't think he is* maybe 900 at dinner

so that's 2100/day

for a guy who burns a lot of cals with the work he does

he's about 5'10 and 250lbs (right now) and carries a lot of muscle - most of the fat he has is in his belly - sigh ya i know - bad

i really need some advice on what to do and how to explain it better than

i have in the past - i think i'm coming off as being arogant (i think he thinks i know everything and everyone else is wrong)

we never fight so this is eating away at me that we have not seen eye to eye on this and it could cause him serious problems health wise.

Sounds like he needs to understand why his diet is not going to burn off his belly fat.

He won't do that by under-eating, or getting the carb-pro-fat ratio wrong (but you already knew that  )

For him (and most guys, in fact), it may be about coming to the same conclusion "on his own".

I've a feeling Bodybuilding.com, and MensHealth.comwill have a ton of material which may have more credibility, and will help.

Others on here, like Optimass, Trainharder and the like, will likely give good advice.

LOL no i wish i could spike his food with well whatever i wanted LOL

:shifty: JUST KIDDING :shifty:

but yes he's using the easy packs - sigh

Woke up next to him this morning after a week of him being away and drinking that stuff - told him i'd make him some oatmeal - My oatmeal has dried cranberries, fresh blueberries, ground flax seed and 1/2tsp of honey

the first responce from him

"naw i'll have a shake"

i took a deep breath and said i'd really like to make it and that he really needs to have SOME solid food WITH the shakes

he grudgingly accepted - and LIKED IT \:D/ =P~

as per usual :pfft:

lol

SIGH

I don't know - i GREATLY appriciate ALL the help and advice :D

it's great to know that i can vent and get advice in the same place - y'all ROCK \:D/

I'm just gonna let him do what he wants - since i offered info RIGHT OFF THE MYOPLEX website that stated he needed to eat food too - and he just shrugged it off - SO he's gonna learn the hard way i guess :?

You can take a horse to water - but you can't drown the idiot

ummm isn't that how it goes?

hehe

8)

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!

That was way funnier reading about Specter "waking up next to him"...but this way it reads better

Sometimes folks have to learn for themselves - and when he's lighter but much flabbier he'll realise your wisdom

My father inlaw is exactly like this -

full on job etc ... runs every morning at 5am .... works at home etc ... My wife and her mum sneak muffins and sandwiches into his lunch box when he is not looking.

because he's so regimented with work - nutrition is has to be convenient (and uncomplicated - nutrition is beyond some peoples comprehension).

You may have to keep making lunch etc. He's using the shakes cause its simple. and at least he does have something :)

Try ...

Morning shake > myoplex + 1/2 oats + 1/4 berries - if you get up before him throw it together and put it in the fridge for when he wakes. 9Or do it when you go to bed)

get 2 containers (1 for snacks / 1 for main meal) - would cook a double serve for dinner and fill the next day container first (that way you can make the lunch serve slightly bigger)..

or - you could drop a meal in to him when you can at work.

you may never change him - just need to adapt your approach .. my wife gave up years ago (together 15 years). :)

2100 Cals Ed is less than maintenance for a 250lb guy. He is going to lose muscle mass as much as overall body mass, as well as as strength & Endurance. The body will switch to starvation mode & store a lot of what it gets as BF. This is likely to impact on his job performance. Maybe this is an angle you can take. Even if you get him into the morning carbed up shake as described ^^, plus say pack a small container of brown rice & cold chicken topped with some Watties Bit on the Side Teriyaki sauce, this would at least give him some solid food for the start & during the day. He can then top up with the Myoplex Shakes in between.
