Infomercials

So we all see them and we all hate them, when you're up late at night getting ready for a bit of late night porn action, hours and hours of infomercials repeating the same thing over and over and over again and again.

It's also funny how every informercial says how the gym is useless compared to their one piece of equipment and you can get a weeks worth of Gym exercising in just 3 minutes a day!@#!@!!!

I've seen some bullshit in my life time but the crap they try to sell you is outrageous like "allow some little electric thing to sit on your tummy and get a rippling 6 pack while you sit on the couch eating chips and watching TV, and it really works.....then some random bodybuilder walks into the screen and says "why yes it does".

Has anyone ever bought any exercise equipment from the TV? if so explain and rate it.

That was the old school one, the one they have now is called V-2 technology lol it's this little thing about the side of two matchboxes that go onto your abs and apparently send frequency waves that makes your muscles contract and cause muscle development!!#!!! omg i must have one!@#!@!!!!

I bought the original ab-flex - the one that you press against your abs. used it until I broke the handle from pulling so hard?!?

I'd say it was good, I wouldn't have done any exercise without it at the time?! I'd now say it useless - some good quality crunches, leg raises etc. will do the same if not better.

Not from an infomercial exactly, but I did buy one of those muscle-contracting electrode machines from the Sydney markets. I'm sure it's completely authentic. :D

In my defence, I didn't buy it thinking it would make me huge. I got it because the physio uses something very similar to help with whatever ails you. (It doesn't seem to matter what the problem is, he'll click the joint, stick the electrode on you for 5 mins, then tell you to come back next week :P)

Anyway, I haven't really used the machine enough to know, but it certainly can work the muscle. I've even had DOMS the next day because of it. And I think it may help with muscle tone (there's a better word but it escapes me at this time of the morning...) I just don't know how well that translates to muscle growth.

Just to turn this post into a different direction...

Firstly, I'm not really fluent in this informercial business/marketing so I have limited knowledge on how it works. I've always wondered though, why haven't people sued this informercial business simply for producing b_llshit claims. A couple or so years ago, I noticed a change in many informercials. They had a "Results may vary" (or something along those lines) title in microscopical letters at the bottom of the screen, in order to cover their ass.

But wait, there's more....

From what I see, informercials are mainly aimed at desperate overweight/obese individuals hoping to turn their lives around. I noticed that most of the sh_t being advertised comes with a dietary plan and I think that's where they trick people a little bit. That dietary plan most likely has a some type semi-retarded calorie reducing diet that will work for overweight/obese population (to a point). Since those individuals aren't worrying about keeping their hypertrophy/LBM they'll be sheding weight all over the place, claiming that sh_t works.

Regardless, I still want to know why people haven't called those companies out yet.

They are always covered in the fine print somewhere

I think the ab excersiser I got somewhere stated you need to eat a proper diet to achieve the same as the pics on the box, but it was really small and easily overlooked in your excitment to have washboard abs in a week.
