Hi Garth Steve competed at just over 90kg (92ish at last weight in)

I have been pretty busy over last few weeks and havent had time to look at what has been posted about Steve ...... till today.

Some of you guys should spend less time on the computer and forums bagging people that work as hard as some one like steve, and spend more time under a squat rack, rather than making accusations about him, when you have no idea what you are talking about. Steve started training at 13 yrs old, has a track and rugby back ground and has been an athlete his whole teenage life, hes prob trained more than most of the knocker on this site.

The idea of posting on this site is to gain experence, share knowlege and epress veiws on things that will make this a better sport, a sport which most of the public thinks is weird anyways. So by putting your accusations of drug use by a 19yr old on here doesnt help the perseption of the sport at all. And how do you think a mother or father would feel if they read those posts about there son.

I can tell you right now as steves coach there is NO cycles in Steves Program!!!!!! Infact i saw his little brother of 17 training the 1st time a few weeks ago :o:o and this is a family of great gentics so dont bag him for what he was born with!!! he has just taken it and is making the most of it!!! and in my opinion has the best potental of ANYONE i have seen in NZ to be come a future name in WORLD bodybuilding. it is now up to him to turn potental into reality.

Whats that dude's leg routine..... His quads are insane

Agreed, so nice to see someone with good legs getting up on the NZ stage! Dont see enough of it over here im affraid.

Based around squats although he has been carrying a knee injury for last few months.

He trains till he drops....... and i mean drops...... heavy and deep.

:pfft: :pfft: :pfft: Is 1st leg workout with us we pushed him so hard he went green and then threw up half way through extentions....... he then came back and finished his set!!!

Completely agree with your statements here Mike. People automatically jump to conclusions when they see a body like that. The look at it and then compare it to the results they have achieved in the gym. As if that means anything!! The vast majority of tranees have never even seen a truly gifted athlete so they have no idea! All they see is the end result.

People used to ask Ronnie how long he had been training for before he ever touched a weight! They used to ask him if he had ever competed. It happened to him so often that he thought he might as well start training as he would probably be good at it. When Dorian was in put in a detention centre when he was 17 he was forced to do a weight training circuit with the other boys. Within 3 weeks he was the biggest strongest boy there, out lifting boys that had been in there for two years! The guards were amazed and told him he had huge potential in bodybuilding. So like Ronnie he thought yeah might as well take it up. Ted Arcidi world bench press champion for many years was over his freinds house. They were benching and told him he should have a go. He had never touched a weight before and started on 60kg. They just kept adding weight to the bar and he ended up doing 140kg for 1, 20 mins later!

I have seen this sort of thing many times firsthand over the years, and untill you see it yourself it is hard to believe. When i was working as a gym instructor many years ago (was 17 at the time) a young 15 year old tongan named Rodney Tipanue joined the gym. My friend and I taught him how to bench and I put a program together for him. He could bench 50kg for about 8. Not bad for someone so young. My firend and I had been training a couple of years allready and could do 70 or so for 8 (of which we were kind of proud). I didnt see rodney for another 4 weeks as he didnt train during my shift. After 4 weeks my friend and I saw him and asked how his training was going. He said he was up to 90kg for 10!! We laughed and said he must be adding it up wrong or was mistaken somehow. We took him to the bench and sure enough he benched 90 for ten full reps. My friend and I felt physically sick. This kid had surpassed what we could do in 4 weeks, when we had been training hard for over 2 years!! Rodney went on to become NZ junior bench champion benching 200 raw before he was 18 (passing numerous drug tests along the way) and had the best body in the gym by far with a tiny waist huge legs and 19 inch (measured them myself) arms.

I could tell you half a dozen stories of people I have seen like this. They may only be 1 in 100,000 people but they will completly destroy everthing you think you know about training progression and what is possible and what isnt.

I know Rodney quite well and he is a bit of a freak who far defies the norm with a lean muscular build with lots of strength to boot. You don't see many guys walking around in the gym like him.I beleive he was a little older when he set those NZ records. Point being he did it drug free.

Hey who knows ,maybe this guys one of those very very rare people that have the natural talent/gift to build muscle/strength thats far beond the norm, I think its unlikely, but not impossible.

Point being he did it none the less which is impressive no matter how he did it. Steroids are not a magic potion.

Looks like he could give us all a lession on conditioning,Mike D not excluded! :pfft:

Funny, from an old Sport and Fitness Magazine (December 1984) that I happened to be reading last night- Mike Mentzer "I have already said it so often, only one in every 100,000 young men possss the physical, mental and intellectual qualities required of a prospective champion".

  • 3 weeks later...

k i dont post much but iv been on here for awhile and the whole 'point the juice finger at [insert person here] cos he's tank' is getting a bit old. i think the majority of us here are mature enough to admire a bodybuilders physique for just that and that alone.

fyi i've known steve since school and he is 100% natural.
