and i hear it the last for the naki, shame!

Hopefully it won't be the last 'Naki show. Perhaps this perception is because no-one has yet put their hand up to run it in 2008. I'm not sure what Phil K plans to do after this year's event, but if he doesn't want to continue as the local Taranaki event organiser, then hopefully someone else will be keen to take over.

I've competed at this show 3 times before, and will be there again this year, and it would be a shame to lose one of the most popular and fun events on the NZFBB calendar.

A new show is planned for next year following the Nationals (in Thames), but I see no reason why we can't also have the Taranaki show a week either side of this new event - we'll see what pans out at our next Exec meeting in two weeks time.

If the Thames show is official then they won't have a Naki show because they made a decision to cut the number of shows each year after last year. Is that not correct? Because of competitor numbers I think.

Not quite, Dumbelldog, but a good point raised. We have two less shows this year than we had in 2005. The Dunedin Classic was dropped last year mainly because the regular event organiser down there decided not to continue in the role and we had no-one else to take over. This year we did not have anyone to run the North Island Champs in Hamilton, so the regular late Wellington region show was moved to Masterton and renamed the North Island Champs.

Another significant factor was we were nearly $60K in arrears two years ago, so it was vital that we didn't run events at a loss. Also, competitor numbers were dropping and basically a small show competitor-wise means less "bums on seats" and less income. Now in 2007, all events are making good profits, we have averaged over 60 competitors per show so far, and we are vitually "in the black" financially.

The 2008 event calendar is only tentative at the moment, but we have been making an effort to try and get the calendar sorted earlier than usual to allow us to pick more convenient dates (with less clashes with other events) due to better venue availability. At this stage we plan to have shows in Wellington (2), Auckland (2 or 3), Hamilton, Thames, Christchurch and Masterton - plus hopefully Taranaki, meaning we could have 2 more shows than this year.

Well then thats not so bad MT, it would be a shame to lose the Naki show. I have had some very good times competing here and as you will know it is an awesome venue. Kind of leaves us wondering where would we go. I think Wellington would be my first choice but it is at the wrong end of the season a little.

I'm competing in the NZFBB Auckland Champs and the North Island Champs, so I could take a few notes and pictures if it would be useful?

That's very commendable, Curt - especially as these are your first shows. As I'm organising the North Island Champs in Masterton, I'll make sure you get all the help you need to do an in-depth report on the event ... although taking a camera and notepad on stage with you is not a good look!! :pfft:

As Curt will be in the Teenage category for these two shows - who else out there will be joining him in this class? There are usually a couple of teenage competitors at the Auckland Champs, but very few at other events. It would be great to see more Teenage and Junior competitors on stage!
