theres heaps of people that use bad form at my gym.... i just enjoy the show - always good for a laugh!

oh geez..I just watched his other clips..wtf! :pfft: Did u see him doing those 100kg x25 rep bench presses off his chest!!! Bounce..bounce..bounce..he is lucky he is just fat.

Yep. His channel is a goldmine of hilarious shit

You weren't kidding!

What a wanker!

I would like to be told if I had bad form but like someone else said a lot of people can react badly so I tend to watch and cringe.

Sometimes I'll make a comment, but it's rare. And it's not normally with a complete stranger, but someone I've been exchanging "gym nods" with.

If I do say something, it usually goes:

"Hey man, what's the theory behind doing it like that?"

...

"Really? Doesn't that hurt your ______?"

...

"I do it like this."

It's a bit long-winded, but it lets them save face and hopefully stops them thinking I'm a total wanker.

Taking this question one step further, if you see someone at risk of hurting themselves, and you don't correct them, would you suggest to a PT that they go over and help?

I always do.

As a trainer at the gym I work out at, I feel as It is in their best interests to have correct form and gym 'knowledge' as you may call it.

Members really appreciate the comments, although there are always those certain few that never listen haha

As a former gym instructor who wouldn't hesitate if form was seriously stupid, I'd say from my experience approaching members in this situation would've resulted in approx 80% not listening, agreeing with me but not actually following through with my advice, or 'knowing better'. The thing is, when walking on the floor you get to know the members really well, and that can actually make it more difficult to assist them when needed. Quite frustrating as an instructor when you genuinely wanna help them.

Yeah ...its such a tough one...I know its kind of defeatest but after reading all of the comments I'm leaning towards the 'If it ain't going to kill them...just leave them to make their own mistakes, and focus on what I'm doing' - Really don't want to be known as 'that guy' who thinks he knows everything. If guess if their form is really so bad then maybe a minor injury might make thm think again about doing it right.

Perhaps the less is more method is the way to go. I had a new guy at the gym approach me this morning and he is super enthusiatic and basically training the whole body everyday and doing tons of different exercises with a mate. He said 'I guess we're maybe doing a bit much huh....' which opened up the discussion about how they could train a bit less and achieve more. So I guess this is the approach I will take when someone is in danger of hurting themselves from bad form too...make some suggestive comments if they invite them.

i floor walk a uni gym as part of my physiologist duties

you get to know the members and who will and wont take advice about poor form

most females are willing to listen, most males not

and the more developed the male the less likely of taking advice

personally i kinda hope they slip a disk or tear a RC cause then they will be my future income stream

there was this young dude doing some partial squat dance calf raise on the calf raise machine and he was wasting m time and his time,so i commented,

it looks like a weird fckin dance,i commented,he started talking to me about how he is a sprinter and that is a sprinter workout,i told him that there's something wrong with it,he says no that 's how he does it,i asked him for the name of the excerscise he didnt know,i just shook my head and he went on babbling about how it's good for sprinters and he was spouting absolute rubbish.i apologised to him for opening my mouth and said " how many sets of your fucking tribal dance do you have left?" he just left.

and I promised myself that i wont say anything to anyone anymore in the gym ,it's not worth it,coz stupidity just fuckin irritates me.

Most of the time I just point and laugh and carry on doing whatever I'm doing. On the odd occasion when someone is doing something so appallingly dangerous that I feel obligated to correct them I just let one of the trainers know and let them sort it.

So the easiest way to torture you at the moment is to talk about awesome food. Like how I had fillet for breakfast this morning. And pretty much every meal since 8)

"Cat - A quite pleasant furry creature that vaguely resembles a meatloaf." Om nom nom :pfft:

There was a guy who used to seriously f*ck me off (momentum curl in squat rack, leg press loaded up and move like a inch)

he trained everyday and hed blatently come over and hurl twice the weight you were doing with unbeleivable form and it used to get to me so much; people would see him swinging ezy curl bar up bending at the knees ect and people would be impressed.

well long story short he had a stroke a died  and its no surprise seeing the shit he used to get up 2.

moral of the story??

I've seen heaps of people doing stuff wrong while working in the gym and have corrected their form, but have been blown off numerous times.

If I'm working = I will correct exercise technique, but I will only offer my advice once. If someone dosen't want it atleast I won't be held accountable for not trying to change their technique. The worse thing for me is to be ask by my boss or other knowledgable clients "Have you seen that person doing that exercise?" "Yes, well have you tried to change their technique?"

If I'm not working, but training where I work = I'll keep my mouth shut, but let one of the other staff aware.

I think tact is the art to getting across to clients who won't listen. I believe it is good practice and basic requirements as a fitness instructor/PT to correct a clients technique.

My 2 cents :)

Yes, I have been inclined to 'whip zee ole jan-del' off my foot and wave it around from time to time :pfft:

But not lately though..................I'm working in Mangere atm, and with the amount of polys coming in I sure I'd have more jandals on my face then on my foot LOL!!!
