NZFBB Nationals date change

Recommended Posts

Yip, good points TGIMC!

Just wondering, is it an option to leave the Wanganui show on the 10th Oct and move the Nationals to either before or after the Wanganui show (or maybe back to the original date of the 3rd Oct but in Auckland)...that way those of us who are intending to do both Nationals and the Rivercity Classic only need to be changing one set of accommodation etc.

I'm full agreement with you on this, Inyan and Grego. In early 2007 I emailed the NABBA officials immediately after the NZFBB Exec had sorted out our calendar so that they could take this into consideration when forming their event calendar.

I will certainly be pushing for a collective negotiation and planning process between the two organisations (plus INBA, but Peter is also a NABBA official) so that the calendar's can be co-ordinated better. I'm all for competitors having the best choice of competitions - regardless of which organisation is running them. Not just avoiding clashes, but also spreading them appropriately both timewise and geographically. It will also benefit sponsors and spectators.

Thanks for that Terry. Feel free to contact me anytime in the future and I will see what I can do.

Cheers

Grego

Is there a final date set yet? I have a new client considering going the Wanganui show.

Any updates would be appreciated.

We should have the dates for Nationals and Wanganui finalised after Sunday's AGM, Sheta - I'll post the outcome when I get back from Auckland on Sunday night.

Just got back from the AGM in Auckland.

The Nationals will be in Auckland on either October 3 or 10 - preferably on the 3rd as this is the original date and this also will prevent the Wanganui event having to be moved if Nationals is on the 10th.

A final decision will be made by this coming Thursday - it depends on the organiser finding a suitable venue in Auckland on Oct 3rd. If Nationals is moved to Oct 10, then the Wanganui show will be brought forward to Oct 3 and it be a dual qualifier for both the 2009 and 2010 Nationals.

OK, it's now confirmed:

The 2009 NZFBB NZ Nationals will be held at the Logan Campbell Centre, 217 Greenlane West, Epsom, Auckland on October 10 - instead of October 3 in Hamilton.

This will also result in the NZFBB River City Classic in Wanganui moving to October 3 (from October 10). This event will now be a dual National Champs qualifier i.e. those placing top-3 in their class at this event will qualify to compete in that class at both the 2009 AND 2010 NZFBB NZ Nationals.

Awesome MasterTel, thanks for getting back to us with these confirmed dates. I imagine it has been a bit of a slog but finally we are getting somewhere and can really start to focus on having a fantastic Nationals and personally very excited about the Wanganui show! I know the venue for the Rivercity Classic is absolutely outstanding - a WORLDCLASS auditorium and there is already a buzz around the city hosting this show!

It would be great if current competitors could really encourage novice and first timers to enter the Rivercity Classic and get a taste of the what the comps are all about!!

:-) see you all there!

Thanks, Red Storm. I'm excited about running a show in Wanganui this year. The North Island Champs in Masterton has been a great success over the past 3 years, and further supports my ambition to have more events outside the main centres.

I haven't seen the venue yet, but my co-organiser (Rod Bannister) is a Wanganui Collegiate old boy (like my wife's 3 brothers) and EVERYONE I speak to raves about the facilities. Rod is doing an awesome job promoting this event, and moving it forward a week might actually be an advantage as it makes is a final qualifier for the Nationals in Auckland a week later.

From the Elite show on Sept 5 to Nationals on Oct 10 there are SIX big IFBB/NZFBB shows coming up - bring it on!

Great to have some final confirmation about the Nats and the Rivercity Classic. The Wanganui show is a great move, the more new venues we can spread the sport to the better for the sport in general. Word is that the venue is a great facility within the Collegiate school grounds, and hey I'm sure that Wanganui is a great City as well!

With the River City Classic being a pre and post Nats qualifier I'm sure that we will see athletes of the highest calibre. I like what Red Storm said - great opportunity for Novices and first timers to throw their kit on as well!

I really like the idea of a general consensus when it comes to both fed's communicating around event dates and general chats about working together for the betterment of the sport. We are such a 'fringe' sport at this stage and we need some joint focus to positively promote it in NZ!
