Contours Wellington on Target tonight

Crazy old Brooke Howard-Smith from TV3’s Target programme gave Contours women’s gym in Tory Street Wellington a right old butt kicking tonight. And it sounds like they deserved every second of the cringingly embarrassing publicity. What a pack of crooks!

Best of luck to the brave young lady as she prepares to battle Contours for her refund via the disputes tribunal!

Hmm yeah I'm not a fan of old Contours. I did a test run there a couple years back and only lasted one session. Just didn't have the right vibe. So I joined up old Exodus up the road. In saying that, they have their fair share of dodgy dealings too!

I would not go near any establishment owned by Michael Chang....

Yeah my membership is up in August and I'm thinking of changing to Les Mills. I don't trust Exodus one bit.

Apart from the owners (and the gossip around some of their other enterprises), I'm not sure what's up with Exodus? It seemed clean, and reasonably well-equipped? Plus, they do some neat cardio (Fight-Do rocks!)

Mind you, it's right up the other end of town for me, so I'm not moving anyway.

As for Contours, how sure are people that the Target thing was entirely accurate or objective ?? It wouldn't be the first time Target has over-done something and had to back down, would it?

Very breifley: She joined the gym, paid for the full year and did not have to pay the joining fee. She was in a hurry to get in shape for a cuba st carnival dancing display. After being dicked around for a few weeks, not getting a start up trainer session to show her around ect, she pulled out.

They refunded her the money minus the joining fee she was originally told she did not have to pay. Also charged her for the evental 7 minute trainer session they squeezed in reluctantly.

 I say that too! And I now work right next door to a Les Mills and won't even consider switching membership to there (though I admit I am tempted to have a trial, just for a nosey, as I haven't had a trial there for 3 years and it might have changed).

No good for me either - work in town and live out J'ville way - I can't even get to my normal gym in town at weekends due to the time it takes to get a train there, so Lower Hutt is never going to happen for me!

I'm out that way too. There's a City Fitness in J'Ville, no idea what it's like but it looks to have new equipment. They may have cheap casual passes.

If I do a workout on Sat, then I just drive into town - CBA waiting for a bus or train :pfft:

I don't drive, and so it's train or bus for me (I choose not to drive, so would never dream of demanding hubby taxi me to the gym  )

My husband is a member of J'ville City Fitness and I buy a 10 trip ($150) and often go with him on weekends. It's ok. A lot of the equipment is pretty old. They have this Smith machine that scares me, it feels so clunky. It's a small gym too, with not as much equipment, so if you go at busy times it could get annoying - I never have that problem at Bodyworks. Also, half of the machines are in pounds which I find really irritating - we've been metric for like 30 years!!

On the positive side, it's an extremely friendly gym. Whenever I do go there, trainers will say hello and sometimes stop and have a chat, which pretty much never happens at Bodyworks (except for the lovely friendly Brazilian guys there who always have a hello and a friendly smile). It's certainly the least pretentious gym I've ever been to (with possible exception of Vic uni gym), and I'm happy to give them $15 a week to save me travel time to town.

Yep, Johnsonville City Fitness is OK - their cardio's good, but the man-cave (weights room below street level) is kinda small, not many benches, and only one or two racks. But friendly staff, and cheap - I've done the ten-trip ticket thing, sure beats a $20 one-time fee at Exodus!

I've found the Bodyworks folks to be friendly enough - more the overseas guys who're always good for a chat, whether they're Brazilian or Irish or whatever. But they have had a lot of turnover in their PT staff...
