Lower back niggles

no not really...I get a bit of a sharp stab in the lower left back on the up side of the squat....have checked form in mirror...seems ok and now i can only do a squat to parrallel but leg presses no problem...dont really want to end up a cripple for the sake of a deeper squat.

Was thinking more along the lines of alower back stretch or strengthening exercise?

My suggestion would be go see a chiropractor or osteopath and get your spinal alignment checked out, the fact that its only one side suggests an imbalance.

Specific exercises could help but if theres an under lying issue you could just make it worse.

Agree with the other posts steak about getting it checked out..I note in your first post that you said ' Especially during squats" so I take it that there is pain or a tweak in other exercises. If the pain is just in the squat, then I would suggest it may be form...however if the pain is present in other exercises then most likely a physio issue. Just a note then on the squat..if you are experiencing the pain on the up portion of the squat, from the 90 degree point to full extension, this is the one of those movements where you rapidly contract your abs from the moment you clench and exert to push up throught the squat, so also potentially sciatic tie in as well. Are your knees always in line with your toes in the squat so it is not leverage forcing your torso beyond this, creating the pain and pressure....? Hope you get it sorted...nothing like that frickin back pain

This may seem a bit of a random reply but don't rule out having a kidney problem. Just something to consider. It can be particularly unpleasant when squatting for some reason. You would likely to have lower back pain though at other times, in the morning when waking up & dehydrated.
