Armwrestling on Documentary Channel

In case you've got the documentary channel, look for a documentary called "Pulling John" - just watched it, was actually a great story.

Some big units in there - and some interesting training techniques, like chest-pressing using an incline leg press.

No, I don't know of any NZ comps.... I just happened across the doco cos my wife was watching the previous programme so, being a pro-grade couch-potato, I just sat there and watched the next programme

I think the re-run today at lunchtime was the last one, but you could try keeping an eye on The Documentary Channel. It's not showing any more repeats but you never know...

I caught it this afternoon as I was channel surfing and was totally engrossed! The 'man' was a 205lb guy called John Srenk (or similar ) who apparently is a legend in arm wrestling. This guy is the Arnold of the sport. He has been a legend for 20 years and was facing this Russian guy Alexey something who was a 260-275 lb bicep monster. Everybody wanted to beat John S, who was such a magnanimous guy. I won't reveal the outcome unless others want to watch it, but the smaller guy had the most fantastic techniques.

If you get a chance to watch it make sure you do as it really is quite inspirational. As someone already said in the thread it was interesting to see the russian guy using the leg press as a bench press! Very cool

Lol cheers. If any of you guys know of any armwrestling comp locations, let me know. I'd wanna compete in them.

There aren't any formal comps in operation - there could actually be an opportunity for someone to do a start up and take it on the bar circuit. Prob wouldn't be too hard to get an affiliation from the usa.

Had this idea some time ago but bought a gym instead....

What gym do you own?

It's a shame that this isn't a popular sport here, it should be cause people do it all the time. The only arm wrestling competition I've been on was at AUT, despite me never being a student there  They're supposed to have one every year, would love to know when the next one will be

My friend won the last AUT one that they had. Funny he is only about 75ish kg.

They had 3 weight classes the last time I was there. Your friend must have been in the middle weight category. Buddy can you let me know when the next one is going to be??
