Whats the difference between NZFBB and NABBA

I was having a discussion with friend from school and she said that NABBA was the NZ champs of bodybuilding, i thought NABBA was a different federeation. I'm just after some clarification on this issue. I also thought that NABBA went for more natural looking phsiques as well.

It's a good question, and there are probably others far better qualified to answer it than me, but here's my attempt. Feel free to correct any errors or suggest additions... :)

You have just about got it right.Figure is not recognised by the IFBB and is not conducted at the World Champs. However the NZFBB hold Figure contests because that is easily half the competitors but the Figure Champions will not get to represent their country.

Also in bodybuilding the classes in the IFBB are separated into weight classes where as NABBA have height classes.

NABBA competitors can also use props in their routines(I think I have got that right) but the IFBB/NZFBB forbid the use of props

The judging criteria (what the judges are looking for) in each class have many similarities between the two organisations so it is quite easy for athletes to go from one organisation to the other and succeed, and GOOD ON THEM

There are differences in posing as well.

As well as having a most-muscular pose as one of the compulsories, NABBA also get competitors in Physique and Athletic (not sure about Figure & Shape) to do their side poses on both sides - not just the competitors favoured side as in NZFBB shows. Also, when doing the two rear poses (double bicep / lat spread) you can't put the same leg back with both poses (but you can in NZFBB).

Having competed for both organisations in recent years, I like the NABBA requirement of showing both left and right sides for side chest & tricep - it helps the judges notice any left/right imbalance with a competitor, but it is also a skill posing both sides, so mastering it should be rewarded.

... plus you are allowed to wear props when performing your routine in NABBA events, but not NZFBB (unless you are a guest poser!)

Hey diamond - perhaps you can enlighten everyone on your request to me for the NZFBB North Island Champs that I organised in September i.e. if you could wear your "Rodney Rude" outfit on stage, complete with 24 inch appendage! :? :pfft:

Obviously I said "NO" to your request, but perhaps you have a pic of it that you could post for us to see?
