currently, there is very little in the way of 'red tape' that stops your average, or more than average, or less than average nzer 'getting ahead'. Therefore I cant really see what don is talking about regarding 'incentives for people to get ahead'. - you could look at it from another angle and say he's going to make it harder for people who are poor. I dont think thats very cool.

Look at the inherant selfishness of bodybuilding. We are constantly eating, flexing in the mirror...its pretty decadent really. I'm into it so dont get me wrong, but my point is we have so much 'choice' in our lives. I'm totally happy for a % of my taxes going to help out people who aren't so fortunate, or disciplined, or educated, motivated, whatever you want...people who's choices - through circumstancess - are more limited.

I also look at the strong cultural identity we have as nzers. We are generally quite proud about how much cooler we are towards maori - than the aussies and aborigines for example. I dont want to lose that. Nor do I want to lose our global reputation as an independent, smart, innovative nation. Brash totally wants to be Bush and Howards' bitch - and you can be sure when he goes down on them he'll take us all down with him.

With all the gaffs he makes, I think Don Brash would get on very well with Bush. Imagine a conversation between two of them! :pfft:

I understand the attraction that Brash has as a political novice because it appears "he's not like other politicians". But that doesn't mean he can't twist the facts too. At least Helen can hold her own internationally. Don has trouble keeping up with other NZ politicians. I don't feel confident he'd represent our country well on the world stage just yet. I think he needs a little more experience in Opposition first.

^ No, different policies of the bureaucrats change the c*nt-ry, but they have absolutely nothing to do with which stand-up comics are riding around in which limousines.

******

On a related note, I saw something which cheered me up on this darkest of days while driving along the highway. Someone had stolen a National Party hoarding that read "Vote - change the government". They had then replaced it in its original position, having skillfully changed it to read "Don't vote - f*ck the government". Great stuff.

Well, I dunno about you guys, but I thoroughly enjoyed that election.

It had everything! The race between National and Labour - would the gap between them close in time? Then it did, and they were neck and neck... There were parties teetering on the brink... Terrorist threats... Convoluted coalition matchups that changed like the wind...

The next election has a lot to live up to!

Do you think so? I think there are now so many minor parties involved that none of them are going to be able to pull on Labour significantly - there are more of them, so individually their strength is weakened. Having said that, I think all parties are very aware that currently NZ is split 50/50, so the politicians will be careful to stay pretty conservative and not do anything too radical.

Personally i would rather Labour remain in government but a slight part of me wants National to gain control simply because criminals have far to much rights and not enough punishment.

It would not be good for the economy if National cut benefits because some people do not have a choice, they're born into a poor household and can't get out because they can't get into courses or extended schooling because of the lack of funding which often WINZ will pay for that. Anyway how far is $180 going to get you? not very far at all which is why alot of people choose to work and considering we have the lowest un-employment rate in the world i think the current system works well.

Now the part that wants National in, since i intend on becoming a Police Officer and all the strife that i will eventually have to deal with and the criminals out there, i feel the current justice systems lacks major strength. Most criminals commit repeat offences and with minimal consequences they feel no remorse for their crimes and even when they get caught they don't change.

Take for example a recent car theif on Police 10 7, the suspect steals somebodys pride and joy, a $30,000 vehicle and takes it joyriding. Now the owner works for 3 years from 9 - 5 breakin his ass off providing for his family, pay the mortgage, bills etc and walks out onto the street ready for work when some dropout lowlife has stolen his car. Not only does it anger but him but produces overwhelming anxiety and mis-trust and a many number of emotional problems but now he can't get to work, not only for that day but for days he is forced to use the bus and everytime he walks onto that bus he thinks of his car and days turn to weeks and weeks turn to months then he is forced to buy a much cheaper vehicle. Anyway enough about the owner, the lowlife driver of the stolen vehicle takes the car, rides around causes a police chase driving 140ks past schools and populated neighbourhoods endangering many innocent lives when he is eventually stopped by a Police roadblock. He is then sentenced in court and recieves 150 hours community service, now really where is the justice in that?

So with National on board i hope these guys go to jail for life. We don't need these types of people on the streets, they're nothing but troublemakers who never change and do not deserve the chance to change.

It really depends to the degree of the crime if they deserve a second chance or not. Obviously the extent of the crime would have to come into play since there are levels of one crime to which it would be unacceptable or totally unacceptable. I will throw a couple examples your way.

Rape - Take for example two teenagers after a party and the male and female are alone while vastly intoxicated and the male while drunk himself has sex with the female then she wakes up in the morning with no clothes on and can't remember and charges him with rape, when in actual fact she consented the previous night and the male gets charge. This guy definetely deserves another chance.

Now another example of a 45 year old peadophile hiding in the bushes while an innocent 11 year old girl walks home when he takes her into the bushes and rapes her voilently at knife point also telling her he will kill her if she tells anyone. This is totally unacceptable words cannot even explain it, guys like these NEVER change and deserve to be tortured and skin burnt and melted and any other degree of severe torture until he starts to comprehend what he has done wrong because sick people like this simple do not realise they have ruined somebodys innocent life.

There are degrees to every crime you can think of, like drink driving if somebody has had two beers compared to somebody who has had 12 and assault like one punch to protect your car from being damaged compared to 6 baseball bats to the head to speeding at 113kms on the highway compared to 230kms. Bring back the death sentence.

In such a case the man would not be guilty of anything, while the woman should be charged with laying a false complaint and/or wasting police time with such a trivial matter. Of course even if having sex with a drunk person were regarded as a crime, there is no logical reason why the woman shouldn't be charged with sexually violating the man, rather than the other way around. It is only in this warped manhating society - so sick as to automatically cast men in the role of offenders and women in the role of victims - that such an issue would even arise.

Thats why there is not such a thing as a charge of rape anymore. It is unlawful sexual connection, and a woman can be charged with that too.

Because no guys like that ever change?
