peanut butter...which brand?

i have been buying Cere's organics peanut butter for a while (can be bought from all major supermarket). it's in a 300g container and cost $6.29. good thing about this PB is it has 2 ingredients only, certified organic peanuts, organic sea salt (less than 0.5%), whereas many other PB has added vegetable oil, sugar or not enough peanuts.

my question is what brand of PB do you buy and eat? i would love to try some new PB, preferably cheaper as $6.29 is abut 2-3 times more expensive than other 'standard' PB. doesn't have to be organic!

cheers advance

I get mine from a wholefood place, they make it themselves it's just peanuts and either salted or unsalted. If you're in Auckland they are in Epsom, Grey Lyn, or Glenn Innes they also delivery, it's a little cheaper than ceres and is organic still too. Worth popping in if you're in the area and grabbing some.

We have an absolute brilliant peanut butter made here in Napier by Chantal Organics under the label of Kai Ora. It is organic with a little oil and organic sea salt added. There are several types (smooth, crunchy, natural), but I prefer the natural one with the husks still left on the peanuts before it is made. Gives a fairly nasty appearance :pfft: , but that is a small issue once you taste the stuff! We will be approaching them for sponsorship for the NABBA Hawke's Bay champs and hopefully get some samples for prize bags.

Oh and I should probably mention that the also do Almond butter (yeah), Cashew Butter (hmmm), macademia butter (ohhhhh) and a couple of others under their own Chantal brand. They have an organics store in Napier that has been around for longer than I have!

for the range, go to http://www.chantalorganics.co.nz/ click on products, and under categories, click on jams and spreads, scroll down half the page and drool....

I get the Peanut butter smooth natural 700g which is on special at Pak n Xave here in Napier for $7.68, but I think it is usually under $9. It's just one of those things I don't check anymore as it is just too damn good to leave on the shelve!

The 400g is $5.68 also on special.

I have spoken to a manager of Chantal here in Napier and they are very keen to get some word out on it.

Sanitarium and Eta both have sugar free peanut butter in crunchy or smooth. They also have ones which are sugar and salt free...heaps cheaper than organic and taste good. They tend to be 97% peanuts and the rest is oil - to make smooth consistency.

BigMD is going through truck loads per week, so organic isn't an option..he uses one with Salt in it but no sugar. I tend to stick with raw almonds.

does any know any 'good' jam spreads? they are more and more says 'no sugar added' but they taste 'sweet'. i wonder they are juice/fruit 'concrete'? that has sugar added already? many thanks again

I don't know of any 'good' ones prolly better off sqwishing a banana or any other sqwishable fruit and using as a spread. The fruit spreads seem to be all high in sugar or other rubbish.

ohh I have huckleberry farms almond butter crunchy stuff, awesome

Oh that sounds good. Jok 'n' Al based in Blenheim do some good stuff. I have seen it both at Pak 'n Save and Countdown / Foodtown. It is all very low in sugar and calories. They do a huge range from jams to chutneys to ice cream toppings (perhaps put it in yogurt?) sweetened with Splenda which isn't as bad as some of the aspartame based sweeteners depending on what your thoughts are on sweeteners (but I don't want grief from you! :pfft: ).

Lol - doesn't bother me or BigMD, still tastes good and does the job, without breaking the bank. We go through about 1.5kg per week, sometime 2kg per week as well as the largest bag of cashew nuts we can find.... Each to their own I guess.

joknal sounds great for james. very low in calories and sugar. works out approx. less/around 10g of sugar per 100g? that is way way lower than the most jam you can find in the market (typically 40% of sugar or more) that is scary!! good to see that are making ''good'' products.
