Giving out gym/nutrition advice

Recommended Posts

I work in a fairly large company and obviously it's common knowledge that I do bodybuilding (hard not to notice how much/often I eat :)) So as a result, I always have quite a few people asking me for advice etc regarding nutrition and exercises, etc... which I love talking about, BUT... it's infuriatingly frustrating talking to someone about these topics who clearly only has a little bit of knowledge on the subject and 'thinks' he knows what he's talking about. He tells me about his workout routine which to me sounds pointless... so when I try to correct and advise him, he argues over what I say and doesn't take anything onboard... ignorant. I find that I now just listen, smile to myself and walk away. :)

One thing I found over the last 4 years of bodybuilding to be of utmost value is knowledge - more important than anything else. Knowledge on nutrition, form and the dynamics of building muscle and losing fat. Priceless.

Definitely. Knowledge empowers.

It's cool when someone does listen, puts in the effort, gets results and you get to see their transformation.

It's sad when someone wants to listen and heed advice, but has other friends/gym partners who perpetuate the lift-heavy-with-bad-form meme. Makes it hard for them to do something different if they're not confident enough to split from the pack etc.

its good people want to improve by seeing your results and how you look.

im sure the others dont really take in what he is saying and want to get to where you are .

hopefully your motivating them more.

just ignore your workmate. keep doing what your doing and one day he will come to you for advice when he realises hes getting no-where.

Absolutely agree - I too have experienced this.

And as per you do, I also just let them talk their bullocks and smile and walk away..

Its frustrating me now just thinking about it!

Ah, sharing your knowledge is always fun - when the person is willing to listen.

I'm guessing you also often get asked for fashion tips too, GR? \:D/ :pfft: :pfft:

got told the first time i joined the gym by some idiot

"mate it's useless working out now, your too thin,Go put on some "weight" first and then start working out.coz you need to convert fat to muscle."

That guy must have had some good experience behind him... so what did you do? Pop down the 'weight store' and pick up some weight? That would have done the trick.

Or did you jump on one of those convert-fat-to-muscle-machines and just swap one for the other?

There are plenty of guys at the gym who will give you bum advice inadvertently or intentionally. A PT once wrote me a programme with no leg workouts - because he said no one is gonna see ya legs ...?

...programs were half price at the time .... let it go :pfft:

I have just purchased a pack of trip2night from http://www.narcomundo.com. I paid around 30 dollars and the shipping was free. I emailed them to see how long it will take to get to me, but they have not emailed me back yet. The first week end night I get it I will try it and let you know if I like it or not. I will concentrate more on the things I do not like since the web sites selling it are promoting it enough and that is not my job. My job is to let the world know if there are any areas I do not like. I will get back to this after I try it.
