Hey guys, I know its going back a while but i'm really wanting to get a hold of some pics from this competition as my great uncle (John Penman) took out the amateur title (medium division?)..i've also read somewhere that he was featured in "Muscle Power Magazine" as a Weider Pupil but not sure which month!! :roll:

You should try posting up a question in the Ironage.us forums. The whole site is about bodybuilding in the 50s to the 80s era. There are a few old school pros from back in the day who post on there, there's a good chance someone on there might have some info for you.

Hi guys,

 

John Penman was my mums second cousin, from Wanganui. I managed to get these images off here (scanned them so not so great sorry). I even have a hand written recipe for a special protein drink he concocted I'll try and find and post.

 

The elderly lady in the last pic was his mum :)

 

The top left pic on last page, John's parents on the left (Jack & Robbie), and my mums Dads father Reginald Caleb Penman is on the right in that pic.

Wow i love stories like this!!! Should definitely get as much info as you can and have it published. John Hansen is an editor and writes a column for iron magazine and maybe Shawn Perine editor for muscle and fitness mag. Hopefully they would publish the story and their researchers would be able to get more details somehow. Golden era type stuff is always a hit! http://www.naturalolympia.com

hey there, this might be a long shot as you probably don't use this account but if you do I wanted to tell you that John penman was my Grandad and that me and my dad have a tone of photos of him and family, we would also really like a copy of those photos you posted as we have never seen some of them! also I have the special formula for the drink and boy oh boy is I a protine buzz, the drink is the same as 6 large steaks or near that hahah us penmans do it the right way
