How much Tuna can one consume?

Hey Guys and Gals,

I eat alot of Tuna, the Sealord Lemon Pepper Flavour, not the lite crap, the gooood stuff.

I've read online that eating too much Tuna is bad due to Mercury levels, can anyone confirm this please?

I love eating Tuna, well actually I find it better for my taste buds than chop chop but uno, each to their own I guess.

Canned or cooked fish are not a higher risk than fresh fish. Note as well that Tuna fish are not a long living specie soooooo Mercury levels are a lot lower in canned Tuna fish.

If it smells like fish and tastes like chicken you're onto something good.

Mercury levels in Tuna has nothing to do with being put int a can or caught fresh, and nothing to do with how long a fish lives for

Where does the Mercury come from?

All top-predator fish absorb the mercury from the fish they eat. There are but 3 top-level predator fish you need to worry about, Tuna, Shark, and Salmon.

No mercury is passed out once eaten, it's built up. Guidelines are posted somewhere if you search for them (not from Tuna-sellers) and I think they recommend 1-2 meals a week of top predator fish. Like anything they are guidelines and you'll be fine as a 185gm tin of tuna is not alot of meat.

Just want to clear up that mercury does not come from the can, and not necessarily from a fish living a long time.

For those who contradict themselves by stating that Mercury levels have nothing to do with how long a fish lives then state that it may not necessarily come from older fish in the same reply.......

yeah that was misleading of me, although I thought saying not necessarily would explain that it could. These levels depend on the food they eat and the mercury that they contain nothing else...not age, but yes the older the are the more they eat, cool
