This may sound dumb but,

when manufacturers say that 1 serve is 1tsp for example, is that 1 full tsp or cut off?

Eg. 1 tsp brown sugar = 4g, is that scooped or flat?

1tbs peanut butter = scooped or flat (hard to measure flat for something sticky like this!)

That definitely refers to it being leveled off, so as posted above by sponge, you'd have to take a butter knife and remove the rest of it. You'll notice that measuring spoons have more depth than serving spoons precisely for this reason.

Though unless you're counting calories down to the gram you'd need need a food scale to be precise.
