DHEA

Recommended Posts

Anyone know much about DHEA?

A friend of mine got some 100mg tablets to help her hormones etc but isnt going to take them - is there any real benefit to add them to a supplement regime for a male?

From what I have read its a risky hormone that can screw up lots of stuff - just curious if any one can add anything from experience, stories or otherwise??

Did she have blood tests to suggest she needed some kind of hormone supplementation?

What exactly was high/low or imbalanced?

Sorry Jasthace, I should have made it a bit clearer - she isnt going to take them, so the query isnt about her... I was curious if they would be any good to add to a males arsenal!

I am likely not going to, but am curious as to what the general consensus is and if anyone has supplemented with DHEA and/or if it is popular.

"DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is an adrenal hormone that is the precursor for steroid hormones such as testosterone and estrogen. DHEA declines precipitously with advancing age in both men and women. There have been many studies showing that oral DHEA can improve neurological function, immune function, stress disorders, and that it can be protective against some types of cancer and cardiovascular disease. DHEA is the most abundant of all steroids and is released from the adrenal glands. Cholesterol actually makes DHEA and is told to do so when the pituitary releases ACTH, which in turns signals the cholesterol. DHEA is involved in the manufacturing of testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and coritcosteroids. The decline of DHEA parallels that of growth hormone. By age 65, the body makes only 10-20% of DHEA that was made at age 20. "

The interesting thing about DHEA & Lipids, is that DHEA is made from cholesterol. So not only does it decline with age but if you are being treated by statin drugs to lower cholesterol you are killing the golden goose. Modern Western Medicine is all F--ked up. Its just about BIg Pharma making more money.

Mate of mine has been on DHEA for the last few weeks, he is 45 years old and weight trains. He has never taken gear or stuff like pro hormones before. He found his energy levels dropped, he felt pretty depressed and found it hard to stay motivated. He has been off it for about 10 days now and is feeling alot better so it didn't agree with him.

I agree with musclenz it's all about companies making money, personally I don't touch anything like pro hormones, they can have worse side effects than gear. If you want to go down the chemical route I think you would be much better off sticking with something tried and tested like test. :)
