Which brand of Protein Powder do you use?

Hi Ladies, I'm a newbie to all this and wondering what a good women's brand/type of whey protein powder is? Ie one that is high in protein but low in fat/carbs/calories. I'm looking for fat loss and muscle gain and toning. I'm not overweight (5'10 and 64 kilos) but carrying fat around my middle. Has anyone heard of Syntha6? Or Balance 100%whey? Any info would be much appreciated :) thx!

good protein is good protein, its not designed for men or women, some companies will market to women with a smaller generally pink container  maybe add a few things such as L carnitine (fat burener) and say its a womens protein. What ur after a good quality whey protein, that will do the trick. a good protein will be low (next too No) carbs and fat.

Balance is good as is Metapro. go for well known brand.

Another good tip is to avoid the small containers of whey protein. This is an extremely expensive way to buy protein powder. Buying a larger container or buying in bulk will always get you much better value for money.

Buying bigger containers of whey protein they last longer plus they dont end up putting a massive hole in one pocket. The small containers are good for when one gose on holiday plus saves extra money on buying instant protein shakes.

Crikey; 20kg is a lot!

The comments made are good to go by. Low carbs around 2g per serve and fat of about 1.5g are most popular... with about 19-24g of protien.

Ask around people that use the stuff for good flavours. Find one that mixes easily in water & can also be mixed in food. You can mix with yogurt or even an omelette. Vanilla is good for yogurt, omelettes, deserts, smoothies and porridge. Let me know if you want some recipes.

Ive just got some Red 8 today so will be trialing that... good to be sweetened with stevia instead of artificial gunk.

Anyone know what Horleys Ice Whey tastes like, and whether its good for someone with the same kinda goals as RabidGinFairy?

I have been reccomended it as the best isolate? I found a review on here by Lamborghinilova but that was for choc... not a big fan of choc, too fake.

The chocolate Horleys Ice Whey tastes like Chocolate Eat Me 100% Isolate. Both are great but isolate is so expensive! Unflavourered isolate is slightly cheaper. Eat Me had a great sale on 2kg unflavoured isolate for a while. But no longer.

For what its worth, for me personally I love the PVL Whey Maxx Choc, but when I tried that PVL Cookies n Cream flavour I just couldn't STAND it!

I don't have a mega sweet tooth I suppose anyway, but to me it was like drinking liquefied icecream mixed with icing sugar it was so sickly sweet... and the cookie crumbs all through it were not something I liked either unfortunately haha. Icing sugar drink with bonus scratchy cookie grit. Mmmmm. Haha, never again.

Gimmee a double scoop of choc protein anyday :)

For those of you who love super sweet things, and don't mind little cookie chunks in your drinks, PVL cookies and cream could be the one for you \:D/

Guilty as charged! I just got mine yesterday and I LOVE it. Looking forward to adding a scoop to my morning oatcake :)

Definitely for those who have a sweet tooth, otherwise Double Chocolate is the way to go (Had that one last time)

Horley's Ice tastes like it's price. Awful! If flavour matters, Balance 100% Whey Caramel Dream flavour. Tastes like caramel dairy food you get from the supermarket. Oh yum! Not as versatile as the vanilla, which I love also. They really mix well too.

agree - the only bummer is balance stopped making it in the 3kg tubs, so i just get 3kg choc. I find balance great, use to use ON whey, but when i compared price per pound, balance 3kg from punch was cheaper (slightly) than the ON, and they both have added bcaas etc. So yep i vote balance! caramel is the nicest, but not quite as economical as choc.

But then again comparing the price of horleys to either...

I am officially a confused noob  There are just too many options... and variables. This is why i've stayed with Horleys sculpt for so long....stupidly considering the price, but it was easy...

Thanks for letting me know about Horleys ICE being crap tasting though, i'll strike that off the list.

If you had to say which was better overall taste wise, which one wins? Balance 100% Whey or ON 100% Whey? Or the PVL WheyMaxx one i guess.... those are what i've cut the list down too, judging on my research. Price isn't that important to me. I don't go through much, so when i have it i want it to be actually worth it. I want low cals though, and I just really don't wanna be stuck with gritty-tasting crap...

Wow I guess i am quite picky. :shifty:

Well from my research....

I use Balance as my "Staple" and the last comp I did I won some PVL Whey Maxx Vanilla, which I hadn't tried before.

They both mix superbly, which I think is important when you are on the go, with perhaps the honours slightly in the favour of the Balance.

I would say the Balance Vanilla tastes like a normal vanilla milkshake, and the PVL Vanilla tastes a bit like vanilla yoghurt (ish). NOt a fan of the chocolate ones as they aren't so versatile as you can mix in fruit etc to the vanilla and have for breakfast etc. My choice? Balance.

Balance is lower in carbs than the Maxx (if that is what you are after), but I am cycling it all and mixing and matching to make them taste different anyway.

Everyone tastes different so what one person likes, another will find horrible so you can't hold me to any of this! :pfft:
