So, is it OK to give pointers, without being seen as a total twunt?

Sometimes I'm so tempted to talk to someone and say if you do such and such you'll target the muscles you're trying to work on that exercise etc. Not a lecture or anything, just a quick pointer and leave it. Would they think you're a wanker?

Like I said, I will only correct someone if they're doing something very likely to injure themselves or someone else. Its not because Im worried about people thinking Im a wanker but moreso I think the staff at any gym have a job to do and if they're not doing it, why should you sacrifice your precious workout time with someone else's responsibility?!

the smaller they are the bigger i look....

but nah im still small and i get inspired by the bigger guys, there is always going to be someone bigger than you, and someone smaller than you, stop worrying and get on with your training, your doing it for yourself not anyone else :D

I am currently 6 feet 2 inches 110kgs and 17%bf. I feel small and hide in baggy clothes. I guess that i will always feel small though.

What pisses me off is the small dudes who try and compete with me swinging huge weight with shitty form. Why o why o why???

Personally i couldn't give a flying f**k how much weight others lift just get the right tempo and form if you aint sure just ask someone.

I always secretly laugh at the idiots though :pfft: The Mr momentums and alike.

There was a small dude in the gym a few weeks ago who kept copying my workout and taking his top off when girlies came in.....what a cock!

We think someone told him and he is to embarressed to come back.

I quite like smaller/beginner guys asking me for opinions and help with form, what to eat, how to train, etc... and when I see someone doing an exercise very badly, I do go over and correct them (standing barbell curl is a classic - someones gonna break a back swinging it around like that!) As for people getting in the way - I am patient, I can wait - can always move onto something else anyway. But with the new circuit training I am doing, no one gets in the way and I never have to wait! :)

Great avatar

You should have told them the "secret bulgarian yelling technique". As you press up you shout very loudly ......

GYMRAT BABY ..... OOOOOOO YEEEAAAAAHHHHHH

... on every rep. Guaranteed results!

When I first started lifting weights, I didnt really take it seriously until I moved to London and joined a gym there. I was lucky enough to meet others who were bodybuilders themselves and helped me in a big way to learn the right techniques and diet etc...

If you truly want to know, everyone in the gym stares and judges others, no matter how big or small, I find I only notice the newbies mostly, and I always get my hellos out of the way with the other regulars I know before I settle down in my training zone and get to business.

I hate being disturbed during training, and I hate peeps who talk for friggin ages while the rest of us want the weight or machine he or she is using!

As for the smaller guy, hell..we all got to start somewhere...so dont feel intimidated or anything..you guys pay to b at that gym too!...just be considerate.

True - so keep going to the gym, to get your money's worth... otherwise all us old-timers get you to pay for our new equipment

Seriously, size is possibly less important with clothes on...some of the best bb'ers at my gym don't look impressive in their baggies. And some of the people who load up the bar really don't have a clue

Regardless of size, the people who get my respect are the ones who keep on turning up, who don't gas-bag all the time, and who pay attention to their form and the logic of their workout...

Ahh, what about the people who don't gas bag, keep turning up but achieve nothing even though their workout is logical? :poked:

Hmmm  If a workout's not working, is it logical? Isn't a definition of futility doing something that doesn't work, day after day, expecting a different outcome?

Big is not necessarily the ultimate as there are many quality bodybuilders who are not huge just as there are many big guys who will always be big but never compete.

I respect someone who puts in the work no matter what size they are. A lot of big guys are genetically that way but don't push themselves and there are are many others who have to work harder to get ahead.

In competition a smaller ripped guy will always beat a bigger smooth guy.

Some fellows look huge in a sweatshirt and others look small but once the tops are removed the smaller guy looks bigger.

Doesn't matter how big you are there is always someone bigger. The serious big guys really don't worry about you small guys, they are too busy training.

A group of us big guys were asked by the owner of a gym not to renew our membership because some of the ladies were intimidated by our baggy pants and because we trained in a pack. We did leave but unfortunately for the owner many other members followed. So you see it not the big guys who worry about little guys it is the little guys who feel insecure.

Just concentrate on your goals and don't worry about what people think of you or you will get nowhere.

One thing that annoys me is that it is the little guys and girls who don't unload their weights. Respect!

I don't know where Agent86 used to train, but I'd heard of a Wellington gym which discouraged bodybuilders... sadly, I'm still allowed in, so I guess I'm not one! Mind you, I heard some younger guys talking about Cutler, Coleman, et al, so clearly there were some BB'ers there.

It was a gym which used to be owned by a guy called Dave and is situated in Cuba Street. It used to be in Evans Bay. We were told that he only wanted "Office types" who would join up and hardly come along. We used the gym too much and he didn't make enough money off us.

When a new owner took over I explained why everyone had left and he was really shocked. Never mind , there are plenty of gyms around now.

In those days we used to wear those colourful baggy pants that looked like pyjamas and baggy tops. Mind you women used to wear leotards and I didn't complain. Am I showing my age?
