saves like 6 pairs of fixed dumbells..

my gyms fixed weights only go up to 35kg, sad. I was trying to think of a cheap way to get these fabricated but was of course told it would cost like $800 in mild steel alone....

oh well if anyone manufactures it for production i want the first pair! :)

ok so getting them made is too expensive I gather (no surprise there)... the Guys in Elite Fitness say they have various length dumbells (with Allen keys to lock with, not spin lock) they say these are technically fixed, but I dont see any harm in using wooden spacers in place of weights, so that it can then be adjustable from say 30 KG to 50KG..

you guys know the type? any better ideas?

Sure that will work. If you look at most fixed length dumb bell handles, they are slightly too long for the plates. So they fill the gap between the last plate and the end lock with thin washers.

Grab the longest pair of handles you can find. Fill the gap between the last plate and the end lock with home made plastic or wood plates. Then replace them with a steel plate when you need to go heavy.

Post some pics of your cunning dumb bell device!

hehe.. just the attachment in the first post above. its simplicity is its beauty :-D it could be improved upon for sure but you get the gist of the sketch.

the male thread itself could be just like the threads on the spin locks. chrome coated so it spins on and off real easily.

the 2.5KG screw could have some nice smooth grips on the top of it so you could tighten the weights down tight but still be able to drop the dumbell on ur thighs without bruising urself.

sometimes I wish I had have been an Engineer like me old man...
