"Eat less, taste more" - NewsTalk ZB

It's taken me over a week to post this, but here's an interesting interview I heard Willie Lose do with Dr George Blair-West on NewsTalk ZB the Saturday before last.

Some of his theories sound a little bit like informercials, but I think "prescribing" small amounts of a cheat food is a good idea to help people keep their diets.

The really fascinating bit for me was his comment on really tasting food - fully savouring it. It makes perfect sense that someone who gulps their food down won't feel as satisfied as someone who stops and rolls every mouthful over their tastebuds. It also made me feel smug to be such a ridiculously slow eater.

Anyway, the interview went for nearly the whole hour. Enjoy. Discuss.

Wow that was a great interview, he had some fantastic points.

I totally agree that we should make our main meal lunch, like they used too back in the day. Although breakfast is the most enjoyable for me these days, which is ironic since when I was huuuuge I never even ate it (which as he states was just completely stupid).

His 'Eat less, taste more theory' is so true and also how important it is to remove high cal foods which don't matter to you but then make sure to replace them daily with small amounts of those which do matter. That's exactly what i did and it meant I never really felt deprived.

Oh and how awesome chewing gum is, I totally advocate that, although I may have taken that one to the extreme a little.

And of course, carbs are death and protein is king.

It really frustrates me that Weight watchers and all the other money-sucking-exploitive-predator weightloss corporations totally don't emphasize any of these crucial points or the other foundations of establishing a healthy lifestyle. They make out losing weight is a simple task achieved through a quick-fix plan, involving gimmicky points or meal replacement shakes which is total BS longterm. Significant long term weightless will never be achieved if you take that attitude. I wish they would stop giving already desperate and vulnerable people false hope.

Thanks so much for posting this. :D
