spray tan twice, x2 level 3 coats of spray.

1st one done on Tuesday, 2nd on Thursday.

Then Saturday morning of the comp a single light coat of DreamTan, doesn't come off or run when applied lightly.

At the show for pre-judging a light coat of DreamTan

At the show for nighttime a light coat of DreamTan

two (or three) coats of Kabakoff Contest Colour on friday (applied with a sea sponge- much faster and tidier than the brush; no flicks of stain like on Mr Hills interior eh Willie Walker!!!!, poor Terry had to re-paint), one coat of body shimmer backstage.

Washes off with soap in the shower, if you start on the thursday, don't shower for more than a few mins in cold without soap.

Kabakoff is a lighter colour than Dream Tan but allows more cuts through.

Being lanolin based it absorbs into the skin and is therefore thinner, also being lanolin based it doesn't reflect light, like the petrolium based product do.

Pic on the left is an example of the definition it shows.

PS US judges hate Dream Tan, so when in Rome, make sure you keep them onside.

Guys, get a girl to put it on your face nice, I used to put it on with the same panache as a hands free cow shit eating contestant and it looked it.

And I'm usually one of three shades, Don't stare directly into my skin or you'll go blind white......Red.....or mud brown.

Yeah I get your standard spray tan first off Laura as did Android but it costs too much to get the disired dark tan, I would say 3-4 times. If you talking sunbeds well that works as a base but still dangerous with skin cancer bla bla

Hmmm good idea 1day, I remember Mastertel saying to use baby oil to get the shit off but I didn't give it a try. Ended walking around oriental bay the day after the show and got "FREEEEEEEEAK!" and other stuff yelled at me and I just laughed hahaha Suppose it looks funny seeing some bird stained orange wandering about :pfft: May be it wasn't the tan  hahaha

Dont' you have trouble getting than tan off ya arm "pits" Mike?

I use Jan Tana now. Prep the skin as they direct you to with the Jan Tana scrub/moisturiser. Then day before the show have my last shower and apply first coat. I usually only need about 3 coats and I'm dark enough. Back stage you apply a (very small!) amount of glaze which hardens up under the stage lights, but I don't use this as I don't feel it's really needed for the figure class. It goes on really well and dries so you're not having to worry about bumping into stuff and it smudging off. Washes off in the shower leaving a nice tan that gradually fades. (Even better ... it doesn't stain your clothes.. ).

When I first competed I used Dream Tan, but that's banned in most venues over here now due to the mess.

I use pro-tan mousse as a pre-tan on the comp morning which I rub on with gloves and roll out with small paint roller. This allows me to to use less dream tan later on. As long as you finish with a roller on the dream tan, it looks good. A light spray with hair spray before going on stage to seal it. I make sure I don't use too much as yeah, it's all about the vascularity!

I ran like I was rained on at NABBA Nationals 08 becuase I used some hot stuff. God the viens pumping, but also the water pumps!

Would love to know who uses hot stuff or a similar product with good results?? I do get a good "pump" from it, but no point if I am melting under the lights!

I can't believe Dreamtan is winning by so much.

It's absolute shit IMO.

As a judge I hate it and as a promoter I hate it even more.

It is banned at the CCI and a number of other shows here in Aust are doing the same.

It makes you look gold/bronze/metallic.

Definitely a lazy persons tan.

The secret to a good tan is preparing the skin beforehand.

Jan Tana is another terrible tan - it makes you look smokey black/green, almost a dirty licorice color.

I have seen some horrendous things when Jan Tana is mixed with other products, especially Dreamtan.

Good old Contest Color and Shimmer is the best of the lot I think.

I think it's more a case of "behind the times" as we are often guilty of in this country at the best of times! I heard dream tan was banned over in Aus, and frankly I don't think anyone would ask why!

These products you talk of Outlaw, What's the exact brand name etc? I'd like to get round to trying it and i'll need to find a stockist here in NZ. There is so many other aspects to this sport, it's just another thing you have to play around with and if everyone else uses it, it potentially leaves out that aspect of "getting it wrong".

Cheers man

JANTANA!!!

Just 3 coats which dry instantly.. you top is dry by the time you do your legs and feet, then touch ups on the day and a bit of glaze, but best of all no staining on your clothes and a quick shower and you look like you just came back form a holiday in Hawaii.

After watching eveyone beat themselves (or have others do it) to death with the other gunk I would never go that way!

You guys have it over there, it's Phil Kabakoff's stuff.

Contest Color & Body Shimmer.

Contest Color is just your base tan with Body Shimmer used as you final coat, like Dreamtan.

I have never thought that NZ was behind the times.

You guys always clean up over here.

Great physiques, well presented, good even colored tans.

As I mentioned before, preparing the skin is the secret to a good tan.

Putting fake tan over dead skin will ensure that your tan will look uneven and blotchy.

You need to ex-foliate daily for a week before you apply your tan so as the tan has an even and clean surface to attach to.

If you slap it on over dead flakey skin it will end up looking crap.

Everyone's skin is different, some will react differently to certain products.

You need to experiment and see what suits you.

I'll need to find it, little old Napier doesn't even have a real nutrition shop let alone tanner etc. I'm sure I'll get it from Auck's somewhere; I'll ask around

Yeah Outlaw, I exfoliate for sure just the night before for me as I moisturise everyday except the final two days so my skin is all good.

Cheers
