Body Fat %

Hi everyone!

Just wondering where can I get my body fat tested (by someone with calipers preferably)?

And how much would it cost approximately?

I know that Les Mills offers it to their members, and I'm gonna speak to them about it if they will do it for others, but what's a reasonable price guys/gals? Thoughts on alternatives?

I have had mine done by my local gym-free by a nutritionist, this went along with a diet plan and cost about $60 if I remember right and by my GP usual cost there.

An alternative would be to actually buy calipers and do it yourself. Most likely cheaper in the long run.

I have bought some and this is exactly what I now do. Much cheaper and more convenient

this is for all, i have found out that Caci clinic in New Market has a bf measure.

one of those fancy ones that does it all via current measure/ resistance etc. I'm going to give it a go on Monday.

I know Auckland Uni Recreational Centre gym does it for 10$.

Call them and ask about non-members getting it done, Im sure theyll help out.

i had a rude awakening the other day. did a pinch test and was at 8% did the lectrode one and found myself at 12%. a bit of a shock to the old system, a bit further than i thought to go.

What is the lectrode method, its not the one where you stand in a machine that sends a pulse through your legs is it?

4 sensor pads,

2 on the hand 2 on the feet and done. it's a pretty fancy we print out you get, ignore the rubbish about ideal composition that they give you and look at the muscle mass, water % in muscle and % of water in fat.

gives you a eally accurate muscle mass

Really? I always thought that those ones were fairly inaccurate. Like if you were sweating more one day there would be a different reading due to the conduction change?

Sorry to disagree with you froggie but I dont think those scales are very accurate and can depend on water consumption prior to getting measured

We had one at my gym free to use I could change by 2-4 % within a day to day measure (I was around 18%)

Thats a lot of difference.

Agreed Deegee. I've used that method also & it is not as accurate as you need it to be.

Doing measurments by yourself can be inaacurate (how are you suppose to get to all the sites like subscapula). I would go see someone and usually it would cost around 50$ depending where you live of course.

But the best measure i like to use is the mirror, if your getting striations you doing ok, plus thos eleticl pad scale thingies are very inaccurate it can vary from day to day even hour to hour due to food intake, water
