EX RNZE, 2 field squadron

being a grunt will get some size on you. plenty of food , fresh air and walking.

I doubt it, initialy you will loose a lot of weight both fat and muscle during your basic training. Later you will get a chance to put on some muscle maybe after corps training, the army tends to make you do too much aerobic training.

I have known a few army people in my time. Although they weren't cabbages.

Wasn't going to comment but...

firstly, sponge - I've seen u squat and you do go just above parallel but you are also tall like me and have to say when I first saw you training your quads were pretty damn impressive...obviously genetics has a big part to play but you appeared to have good upper and lower quad development. Alot of guys I have seen who squat heavy but only partials get big upper thigh dev. but very little around the heads - yours didn't have that shape - so i conclude you must be doing something right.

Secondly, an old friend of mine in London who used to train with the great man, Platz himself, told me to try and squat the way Platz does. Put the ole 1/2 inch board under your heels and in that way you should be able to compensate for any limit in your ROM. He used to squat (I'm sure you have heard till he puked, so deep on hacks he would literally roll forward over his toes at the bottom of the rep, 100's of reps etc).

all this is has truth in it (plus something like 30 shots of gear per week as said by himself) but i did try doing the squats with the board and trying out a few other suggestions such as:

before descending tense your muscle as much as possible, getting the perfect squatting posture etc.

Well at the time i was full deep squatting 140 for 15 ass to the ankles, back perfectly straight, slowly squatting no dropping, in fact I used to walk the bar out of the rack about 10 feet back and turn so I could use the mirror.

I gave the platz squats a go for a week or two and went from 140 for 15 to 100 for sets of about 12. I didnt keep on going because I blew a quad muscle a few weeks later on an unrelated adventure but as I recall the depth of pain in my quads from squatting the way that was suggested to me was incredible and all over my quads. After each workout every ounce of muscle fibre was literally screwed. Just my exper4ience.

Nowadays _ am only just getting back into squatting again - doing 140 for 6 descent reps and just found out the joys of hacks again and really LOVING it. Most I've ever squatted is 180 for 6 ass to the floor but as I'm very tall 6'4 - it played a little on my back which a screwed severely years ago (again on an unrelated adventure).

However I will not wimp out on this one by saying that my height is against me as I remember watching a dude at Golds in NZ who was taller than me by at least 3-4 inches squatting ass to the floor 260 for 12 reps.

now that was impressive

I really have found that more weight, less ROM on squats or leg press really help with that lower development.

Mind you that was before this endurance training now I have no legs at all *cry*

--might see you in the week, probably going to train quads sometime

morning ppl,Squats a!

when training with heavy duty: supersetting leg extentions with smith squats blow them away

think of warming up with a light set of squats, then a med set then loading the smith machine up to your max full squat weight!!!

setting your leg extention machine up to so ya only get 7 seconds between sets.

so ya read to rock! all set up,no one talking shit, good sounds on!in ya best training cloths(for squatting)

ya walk over to the leg extention jump in and go:last time ya got 15 reps with 17 pts, smoothy lifting then contrating at the top and lowering down even slower ya go of one rep to a nother, the first 7 are easy but that was the same last time too!

every rep at the same speed and rom ya hit 19reps then ya start for 20 but 1/2 way up ya legs go and you fail with the upmost of burning ,ya legs are red(full of blood)u jump up and pull ya self under the smith pick it up!

this 150kg feels like 250kg!!!! and start the set within 7 seconds of failing in the extention machine,

doing full squats ya beet ya best at 9 and start for ten reps going down nice and slow then coming up ya legs go again on ya failing but ya try as hard as ya leg can do,yes ya get it ,at the top ya squess ya legs so they contact again for 2 seconds then back down(WHAT A WORKOUT)AND OVER IN 20 MINS

I'm sorry Mr Heavy Duty but I find your posts really hard to read and understand. Do you think you could take a bit more time with your posts and grammar etc.
In regards to spelling and grammar, I usually copy and paste my posts into an office document just to check mine as I am hopeless with it too.

Because everyone loves a smart-arsed pedant.

But I agree with the sentiments - and that's a great idea, Boostin.
