Strong Man Competitions

Recommended Posts

Can't find a whole lot online at the moment, but I am looking at competing nearer to the end of the year in a strongman competition - Either in Australia or further abroad.

I was wanting something similar to the Worlds Strongest Man layout, with that being the eventual goal.

Any ideas?

What are some good junior classes to enter, Im 23 in July and should be close to 130kg by November - December all going to plan.

Thanks,

Sam.

Junior classes aren't usually a feature in SM comps Sam, and being 130 you're in the Heavyweights for sure! (Usually a U105 class).

I would suggest you do a local comp before heading offshore - in many cases you wont actually be elligible for Pro Comps, but the Amateur classes aren't usually by invitation except if numbers are an issue.

Local comps coming up in Auckland - one in June (fairly low key at AUT) and the NZ Strongest Man (2 day event) at Big Boys Toys in November. The level of competition should be good this year with Nick & Jono (2008, 2007 NZSM winners & now Pro competitors), Karl Waitoa (Worlds SM Competitor & Britains SM top 3) and Jeremy Hogg (Aussie Pro Competitor) all signalling they're keen.

You would be advised to train implements rather than just hope your BBing training will get you through - the transfer aint that good! If you're in Welly I suggest you talk to Warren at PowerHouse. Check their forum for SM training articles etc.

All the best with your SM goals Sam.

Nate

I'll be based in Australia, but happy to head back to NZ for a comp or 2.

I was considering NZ's strongest man last year, but decided to train for a wellington based power lifting comp instead.

Do you know of any decent QLD based coach's in the Brisbane area? I am happy to pay good money provided they are good.

Oz Strongman looks epic! Gunna pay for my membership tomorrow and aim for some of the comps near the end of the year. Will need to work on my technique a fair bit :pfft:

I did ok in my first comp, I moved to Ausy the week before my latest one. Real waste of training unfortunetly. I'm aiming for my next comp weights to be something along the lines of

Squat: 250kg Dead: 300kg Bench: 200kg

I should be near those weights within the next 6 months hopefully.

Sam, go with the OzStrongman shows with Chris, more manageable weights and opportunities to go further if you can hack it. Look up Ryan Philips on FB if you can, think Marc Wells trains out in Brissie too.
