Heart rate monitors: worth the investment?

Thanks for posting that TFB. Thats real interesting. Guess there is never direct accuracy but you can count on it with somewhat certainty if its also got all your weight, age, vo2max, height details etc.

In the end, I just find it a good analysis of how hardcore my workout has been really in the limited time i've spent working out, rather then the actual calorie count figure itself.

Soooo i received my Polar FT40 today, courtesy of Israel Mail, who might i add, would kick useless NZ Post's ass any day.

How much did you end up paying.. taking into account exchange rate and shipping?

My credit card says $253.85 :D I would pay it again anyday.

what is the technology like? does it work based on a pulse like the sensors on a tredmil or a bike? lol i always get fustrated in the gym when im not sweating look like a freak putting two fingers into my jugular to feel my pulse haha

i think itd worth the buy depends what your using it for i mean cardio most of the machines have the HR montior sensors.it would be useful when pushing weights but would it get in the way with all the wiring?

but yeah my heart rate monitor is the sweat on the floor

Nah Ramy, read back thru the thread, these HRMs almost all use a wireless chest strap to send readings to a watch unit or similar.

No wires, no mess, and although the straps need a little moisture to get a reading, tbh if you're not at least a little sweaty you're not going hard enough.

And yes, it can be useful during weights - wear it during a set of max-effort squats and watch your HR hit the redline!

yeah i know id be interested in using one during winter its so horrible my gym leaves the fans running with multiple double doors open like wtf? get a clue...how much are those HR monitors? i wonder what my heart rate is when i squat cuz i start sweating just when im stretching

still drinking same amount of water but ive noticed its running straight out shortly after. Im using the same type of creatine as last summer which retained loads of water. still trying to find alternatives to keep the warmth up..

i had a look on trademe they seem quite expensive.

I would have thought that with the insane intensity you train with that a fan or an open to wouldn't affect you. If you training hard your body temp should be very high.

They definutly aint cheap, but as i've said like 5 times, trademe is useless for them, use ebay or if you have too, retail. Trademe may have some low quality ones but if your going to buy one you may as well get one thats decent.
