I don't subscribe to that "five serves a day" stuff...that's for normal people

On an average day on my current diet...

three lots of one tomato, three 10cm celery sticks, 10cm cucumber, one capsicum and two 100g steam-in-bag frozen veggies.... along with a couple of serves of 65g cooked kumara.

Oh, and a decent multi-vit, and right now 1000mg Vit-C as well (sniff, cough!)

I'm pretty slack to be honest but I usually have 2 x apples a day, 1-2 servings at lunch of veg and a carrot + some random other veg in the evening.

I need to look into those individual serving steam fresh ones? I have never seen them, mind you im kinda scared of frozen veg

I try to make the base of my diet veges and then just add good sources of protein.

I.e

breakfast: egg white omlette with a heap of spinach, mushroom and tomatoes.

lunch: a hugeeeee salad (probably about 4 servings, going by the 5+ a day rationale) with every vege i can find in the fridge chucked in with egg whites and/or salmon/chicken/tuna

dinner: at least another 3 servings through something like vege soup, stirfry or grilled meat and salad

Far out, looking at it that way... I think i may be obbsessive. :?

I don't eat many veges or fruit when I am bulking there's not enough room for them it's either rice or meat I'm interested in. Occasionally I have a serve of frozen mixed veges or even BK has some veges in their burgers...I think.

I know I should eat more but I don't. During my cutting phase I do eat more green veges like broccoli, and fruit like apples.

Plus frozen veggies are cheap to buy depending on which brand one buys as well and they save lots of time chopping up fresh veggies or cooking fresh veggies.

Yeah :-)

And 20/20 a while ago showed results that said frozen veges had more nutritional value that fresh ones...if u believe the TV it's true!

apparenty frozen veggies/fruits are better than the "fresh" non- frozen type bcus as soon as they are picked they are frozen and packaged, so it preserves the goodness - which makes sense

There are other threads in this forum abut the muscle building benefits of spinach...

unfortunately unless it is young, you have to cook it.

isnt that just a myth? i like spinach, especially the way mum cooks it, but wen i looked on the back of the pack it doesnt have much protein at all!

if you want better skin yes eat plenty of green vegetables, have plenty of fish oil and go to a sunbed once a week.

Eating about one cup of raw spinach offers roughly one-third of the nutrition as half a cup of cooked spinach (which is actually equal to about three cups raw).

So, while spinach makes a great addition to cold salads and sandwiches, enjoying your spinach hot packs a better nutritional punch.

According to this random website, http://www.lifescript.com/Body/Food/Good-foods/Spinach_Nutrition_Facts.aspx.

I would have thought the raw factor would mean it is much more nutritional but I guess becuase it is quite hard for the body to break down its realative to the fact that if it is already semi broken for the body to digest then it can absorb so much more.

People would not take spinach as a huge source of Protein, It is more Vitamin A,C and Iron, and other random things, and a little bit of protein.

I still refuse to cook spinach, It just feels like seaweed, BUT about 5 big handfulls of raw spinach with Chop chop chicken ( mustard one ) is sooooooooooooo nice. Its literally better than any junk food I can think of. I crave the stuff.

Now that spinach thread is interesting...it's kinda like silver beet for me, it's gotta be just right to be edible, not done the way my granny used to, which boiled it within an inch of its life!

Overall, any diet that cuts out processed junk almost inevitably has to be better for the complexion, and yes, it has worked for me. Of course, I was always this good looking

Protein isn't the only thing you need to build muscles.

I find that cooked spinach tastes fine, but i'm just lazy. but with 3 times the nutritional value, i will find it much easier to motivate myself to cook it. thanks for that.

Wait...i was just reading through that article now.

The reason it has a higher nutritional value is because it compresses down to 1/3rd of size once it has been cooked...

Also, a relevant part if the article:

Just half a cup of spinach counts as one serving, and adding spinach to your arsenal of healthy foods is a great way to aim for "5-A-Day" while also adding variety to your meals.

I'd like to say it had helped my skin but no sorry, it hasn't. I have problematic skin though, so it may be different for normal people. Female skin is more dominated by hormones too so it may be diff for you.

I do find it helps a number of other things though, primarily my energy levels and immune system *she says whilst simultaneously sneezing & coughing*...
