Protein drink bottles

Pseudonym

Recommended Posts

I've had an old 600ml cream bottle which did the business admirably for a long time. It held two serves, was semi-transparent so I could see whether it was mixed and how much I'd drunk, and it had a nice wide opening to get a scrubbing brush inside. It was also lightweight and compact.

Unfortunately, the Cytosport protein I've been using recently seems to have formed a scungy residue that no amount of scrubbing will remove. (That in itself is a little concerning, too - what do my insides look like?!)

Anyway, I want a replacement, and now they've changed the bottle lip to allow for foil seals, I don't think the new-style cream bottles are as nice to drink out of. What do you guys use?

Ha, I was really after a bottle rather than a shaker. Shakers aren't so great if you're on the move - they tend to leak, and I'd feel silly pulling out my shaker on the bus (let alone swigging out of a Marmite jar!).

A Mizone bottle's not a bad idea at all, but I've used them for water and had them leak in the gym bag, so I'm not sure I trust them. A Wave bottle is pretty good, but it's not see-through, and the lip's all scratchy and horrible.

The ideal bottle would look like I was just drinking chocolate milk. Stealth protein - ninja style!

I've never had problems with mizone bottles leaking before, but had had problems with fruit juice.

If i remember correctly, there is a brad of chocolate milk out there which is in a partially see through bottle, covered by a label... (I think Primo)

if you are worried about people giving you strange looks with a shaker/ marmite jar, stick it in a paper bag. No one will notice. \:D/

:pfft: Yup, then they'll just think you're a drunken bum. On the up-side, strangers might give you their change, could help fund your protein.

I have always been told to mix and drink within 15 minutes as various nutrients in your shake start to lose their strength. Something to do with chemical reactions with water or milk. Its a pain in the butt but personally i have a mixer with dry powder and a bottle of water.

However i am no authority on this and i know loads about nothing and nothing about loads!

I have a heap of those square plastic eatme protein shake bottles from crighton cobbers. They make em up while ya wait at the counter. Snug fitting lid so no spills in the bag. Wide mouth to spoon in the powder. Fits in my pocket for the movies too! Horelys have a similar square single serve bottle. Grab one and reuse em!

Oh yeah...

I forgot about those.

You can pick them up from (most) Health 2000...

$6.50 i think...

But the lid is quite narrow, so you may struggle cleaning it properly.

And it only a single serve...

But if you get 2....

LOL...that wasn't even intentional....

I think a pump mini would be cheaper for a similar thing.... but if you also want a smaple of horleys ice, then maybe.

Cheers, I got a Horleys Shake'n'Take bottle from my gym today - $5. I was busily examining it when the receptionist started a sales pitch on how good the protein was. She seemed quite surprised when I told her I was more interested in the container than the contents! :pfft:

It looks quite promising. The bottle's at least 600ml, possibly a bit more. The "single serve" is because you're only supposed to fill it to 300ml, then use the rest as shaking room. What a waste of good protein space!

The plastic seems a little bit flimsy (obviously it's designed to be disposable) but it's got a nice big neck for easy cleaning. Good show, Horleys.

(Incidentally, the Ice Whey strawberry flavour I got by accident was surprisingly palatable, even though it's not very sweet and I mixed it in water.)
