Needing Energy! What's out there?

I'm looking for something to give me some extra energy / intensity to my workouts.

I've got a pretty good diet of 5/6 high protein meals a day and without really trying to lose any weight i've lost quite a bit (visually, as I have no scales, but my old jeans fit again). I have been suffering with loads of lactic acid in the days after a hard workout but I'm sure this is just because I'm hitting muscles again that I hadn't for ages, so hopeful that will pass. (forgot how many muscles those deadlifts work)

Plus with the mornings becoming colder and colder it's getting harder to go into the garage and hit it hard from start to finish, which is what I want to keep doing.

So if anyone knows what would help with pushing that little bit harder from the start I'd love to hear.

Thanks BamBam, I have done a bit of research based on your recommendations and superpump does look good, just a bit worried about the "superdump" aspect  But can't be any worse than when I first started taking the protein powder and took too much for the body to absorb. No one told me about what happens in that scenario!!! (some poor roadside bush took a hammering on the drive home) :pfft:

Well after all that I just ordered my next tub of eas 100% whey protein and.......a bottle of RPM tabs  After reading 50 different review pages and other forums opinions, it seems like these are the best bang for buck right now. But of course the old "what works for me......" so I'll let you know what they're like when they come. Superpump looks to have real good results, but right now I just cant afford it

So RPM here goes nuffin! Hope this stuff helps me push my weak shoulders a bit harder \:D/

You taking creatine? I find creatine to be a wonder supplement. Seems to speed up my recovering and when I am on it, I get noticably stronger. Because of this, I find it easier to get out of bed and train (i.e. knowing i'm getting stronger). It's not a stimulant though so won't give you a 'buzz'. I also find I get leaner when on it, probably because I seem to be lifting heavier.

From a stimulant point of view, I can't take fat burners as they make me feel sick and really tired, however, when I was dieting down last year, I found black coffee in the morning before training was brill.

Another thing is music. Sounds silly but listening to Linken park or pink (I am a girl afterall) on my MP3 player gets me psyched up. You probably do this already though (not necessarily with Pink but stuff that works for you  )

:pfft: I'm the same - I find 'Ur Hand' from Pink gets me going in a workout!

LOL.

anyways.

I find caffeine pills work for me, but i try not to always take them. I picked up 100 200MG pills for $20 for nutrition plus. (I bought kaizen)

you could look at these: http://www.sportstrition.co.nz/items/Hi ... feine.html

but unfourtunatly you have to pay $5 for shipping which boosts the price a bit. But you can also get some samples....

but IMO that is one of the cheapest options out there, but it may not work for you.

I was talking to someone who recommended I shouldn't start on the creatine until I'd already built up a reasonable amount of muscle mass first. As I've only been hitting the weights with any frequency for about 8/12 weeks (only been on a program for 2 weeks) I thought I'd give it another few months before starting on it. Am I being given mis-information or bad advice??? I thought also that maybe it would be a good supplement to start taking once I hit my first big wall :?

Yeah with the music \:D/ I always do that! But yeah Pink aint quite my thing  I've got weird taste when it comes to workout music, I'm currently smashing the speakers out with "Dropkick Murphys" and "System of a down" then I have to break out the old Onyx for the last part when I need some extra aggression to push out the last few sets  then when I'm just relaxing / recovering, I crack on some old paul weller, eric clapton, the verve ect and remember all the times I wasted my body getting high hahaha.

If fact I still think the ultimate fat loss and cardio routine was my old "take a few of these and dance till Monday" days :naughty:

while I was looking around I saw caffeine pills were quite cheap, but just not too sure how effective they were? i might grab some as they seem cheap enough to try out. How many do you take before working out and how long before? Also are they more effective on an empty stomach?

Cheers for your help guys, this site is great!

I was taking 400MG in the morning, about 30-60 minutes before my workout. I had it after breakfast, but i wouldn't have it on an empty stomach, coz i did that once and... i didn't feel good after...

certainly wouldn't want to be doing exercise feeling like that.

Caffeine has research behind i showing that it is not only a stimulant, but also... i think... a lactic acid buffer.(??? is that right????)

basically it means you can go harder for longer before you fatigue...

but if you by them and decide that they don't work for workouts, then you can keep them for... clubbing or something...

Thanks mate, I might be able to use them in addition to these RPM's

regarding creatine,

get a good base of training maybe 6-12months as you will see good gains in this period anyway, then you could start using creatine..

theres no reason to not start it tomorow if you feel like it tho.. and its pretty darn cheap.. dont bother with all the hyped up creatine products.. creatine monohydrate has been proven to outdo all other types of creatine,

if you want a link to the studys that prove this let me know

cheers

and by the way, im currently using superpump and have used it before and i think its wiked.. yea it makes you take a good dump but no harm in that!!

It has a very zingy taste some say battery acid.. lol, i use blue raspberry flavour

the only thing i could say is if you drink cofee or v quite often its pretty easy to build up a tolerance for caffene and alot of these products tend to do bugger all then.. you will still get a good pump regardless

i stay away from caffene products as much as i can till i start using something like this, then its that much better

maybe give it a try down the track after the rpm

good luck with your goals

cheers

Thanks for the help Ghostin, I would love to read up a bit on creatine if you could pass on that link about the creatine monohydrate? I don't really know anything about creatine to be honest. I believe it draws more water into the muscle tissue?

Thanks for the well wishes towards my goals. I just have to share this with everyone (cos it's a big deal to me), I've got big goals in mind but I'm just seeing my first real results from having a proper program and good diet. I'm actually developing peaks in my biceps, which I always felt were a problem areas even when I was young and lifted hard everyday. I had great strength gains back then but never really got any sort of peak. BUT NOW I'M GETTING PEAKS \:D/

Sorry, I know it's minor but to me it's huge!

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm sure most of you have checked out the components of SP250, I was advised not to take it in the evenings due to the high caffeine content (the person who proffered this info was taking about 2 servings instead of the recommended one, anything more than that gives you a headached due to the caffeine apparently). I've decided to stick with effervescent creatine (the first lot i bought a few months back was still not great to get into soilution/drink) and then just add a few cffeine tablets should I need them.

I've always believed it heightened the pain receptors

I would get Beta-Alanine, forget about raising your heart beat with caffeine, that isn't 'real muscle energy' (oh yea I know it's a stimulant and helps wake you up, but it doesn't help raw power with heavy weights). Creatine and Beta-Alanine will really give you more power, more endurance for your muscles, funnily enough the parts of your body you want the energy for.
