It's just because we are awesome.

No,

When you chew gum, you trick your brain into thinking that you are eating, so you eat less at following meals, and if you are cutting, it helps you to stay fuller for longer. And it gives you fresh breath.

wrong, well your right about the tricking your brain bit but it actually stimulates hunger

Ive found it helps alot when dieting for a comp as a "sweet" fix.

I am aware of some research that supports Luigi's post about it stimulating appetite in much the same way that diet colas are supposed to.

Personally however, I believe this is different for each individual, in the same way as caffeine tolerance for example.

though i'm sure it's not good for me - after nights i'll chew gum at the gym ciz by 6am i'm raging hungry but have been finding it hard to work out on a full tummy - so it stops my tummy from a rumblin while i'm in the gym and ACTIVE but the second i stop to stretch no amount of gum can help lol i'll have to eat!

No I don't chew on gum as it makes me really hungry. Also I find that when cutting, artifical sweetner seemed to make me retain water. So I ended up cutting out even protein powder in my last few weeks - grilled chicken for breakfast was an experience! Generally I find artificial sweetners don't mix well with me - different for everyone though.

the studies i have seen show that you eat on average x amount less calories per meal after chewing gum.

if i find the magazine with the figure in it i will post it. may be of debatable accuracy, but i find that is how it works for me...

if i chew gum at work (retail) when i am hungry and still have a while before lunch it helps me curb my hunger... obviously it only works until a point.

I go through like 4-5 packs a day if its there for me to have....and i'm immune to its ahhh... 'negative' effects now, shall we say... bad i know... i have far too much artificial sweetner in general but hey, it doesn't seem to have effected me too badly. Just don't offer me gum..i'm likely to attack you unless you give me the whole pack. :pfft:
