NZFBB AGM-who for president?

Recommended Posts

I would pick Moe for president and for Vice president Brian McFarlen and for the executive positions I would pick Mike D,Terry Hills not to sure who esle I would pick as well.

I'm pretty sure Mike D & Moe have got their careers / businesses to focus on if they want to pay the bills!

I suggest members take the time to think it through and vote for someone who has the time to dedicate to an executive role, as well as having the athletes best interests at heart.

Someone who is dieting & competing to make a living aint going to have the energy to get the sport where it needs to go. (Nothing personal Mike & Moe, I'm sure you know where I'm coming from on this one  ).

The NZFBB AGM is coming up soon, time to decide what direction we all want the federation to follow. So who will be running for the President position? Executive positions? Who should we support?

Any thoughts?

do u have any info on what the main canidates(ie brian & moe) will bring to the table if elected?

I would like to see some of the old ones out as they still have the same attitude as the pass president who got away with too much. I know as I was one of the Executives that saw it first hand and with it got the knife in my back.

I don’t think that judges should be on the Executives but have one as a representative for the judges at the meeting to put their opinion in with the way the shows are being run and the competitors

I am going to put my hat in and would like to see Moe, Terry Hills, Big Darrel and to see Phil K back as he run a very good show in NP

I can't speak for either of them but Im sure they will let everyone know in due time what they see for the future of the sport.

Personaly I would like to see a joint effort from Terry Hills and Moe, I can't think of a better combo to take Bodybuilding in NZ to an International level.

With the support of Mike D, Willy Walker, Maby Mike K would throw his name in the hat?

We need more support( both financial and moral ) for athleats who are wanting to represent at the worlds and other overseas shows, as well as a clear route to professional status.

Some definitive decision making, not this current waiting game we seem to be playing on the important issues.

what city will they have the AGM in ?????

Not sure where or when yet, Allen - we're waiting for Brian (President) and Nigel (Secretary) to organise the date and location. I assume it will be either in Auckland or Hamilton. Our constitution requires we have the AGM and elections by mid August, so me guess is it will be between mid-late June and early August.

Thanks to those who have given me their vote of support - assuming I get nominated and voted back in I am very keen to remain on the Executive and organise events. I've really enjoyed my 4 years on the Exec so far, and while it's nice to be appreciated, I just do it to try and make a positive contribution.

When voting for committee members or a president, I'd like to know in advance what are the candidates ideas, visions for the federation, skills they bring, past contributions or dissatisfaction with the past decisions are and what they would like to do better.

If contenders don't feel that other committee members are people they could work with, I'd like full exposure of who they feel they can work with and if they are aligning themselves with any cliques, or equally if they are planning on running as an "independant".

....each voter has the same power, and their thoughts about what will take the federation and the sport forward, whether that be drug testing issues...financial performance....pro card qualification....show calanders...competitor categories...elite shows....media exposure...or the website etc are all valid and individual priorities.

As a 19 year competitor for the IFBB/NZFBB I have my opinions as to what is important and where we should go, I have had many debates for the direction of the sport with my close friends on and off the committee, disagreement doesn't change our friendship and our friendship has not changed our opinions or ideas.

Vote wisely on the ideas and the qualification to do the job, I know I will be.

I have mentioned this in a previous post also. IMO As the federation requires and in some respects relies on membership income, I think the NZFBB should be a lot more transparent in its dealings. I refer to a number of mentions of bank balances etc.

There has been a lot of talk and speculation on these forums with regard to various policies and concerns - not just with NZFBB to be fair, but NABBA also.

Some key areas that need to be identified would be potential candidate resumes. I think it is also essential, as it is in most other executive applications, that the canditates supply a criminal and credit check conditional on appointment. (For obvious reasons this information shouldn't be made public but can be dealt with discretely at board level).

It's important for the new leaddership to remove the blockades to prompt descision making to ensure the federation is able to capitalise on opportunities presented off the back of our PROs building our geographic profile overseas. And whilst the federation has funds in hand it should probably be held accountable to members by having to publish financial statements to members.

Some of the savings and desiscion making will hopefully be around updating and maintaining the organisation web site. The information always seems to be late added or not relavent to the current period. In some respects the website says alot about the management in an org - it's something very simple and easy to do but it plays a huge part in progecting how well the fed is going.

Very well put Mike K would also have my vote as well

Good point, Optimass, and it is something we have made a priority recently. In the past year or two it has been the NZFBB Secretary who has looked after the website. Unfortunately, we have had to replace two Secretaries in the past 12 months due to them not being able to keep up with the demand of the roles, plus neither had any experience or background in bodybuilding - not essential for the role of Secretary, but more significant when it comes to undertstanding what should be put on our site and when. Added to this has been the periods of time between a resignation and appointment of a new Secretary - hence the website updates stalled.

Kaye O'Neill (Exec member and Judge) is now controlling what information gets posted on the site, and I have in the past 3 weeks taken over the administration of the site. The tools I have to update it are basic, so while I'm very limited on what I can do regarding the look of the site, Kaye and I are focussing on making sure that relevant information is posted accurately and promptly. I've added a post on the Classic Mens Class, remodelled the Calendar and set up a Results & Photos page which I intend to record all event results for recent years. 2008 is complete and I'm progressing with earlier years. We are also looking at loading profiles for all Executive and Judges in the next month or so.

Sounds good mate. It could be seen as a small thing but essentially doesn't portait the fed to a prof standard. In comparison the NABBA NZ web site has pics and results the date back much further.

I think loading profiles of our local pros would be another key feature. And then looking at merchandise that can be sold online for which the profits could be re-invested into the federation. Perhaps advertising on the website etc - may be a partnership of somekind with nzbb (Obviously would need to be non-aggresive to allow the othe feds opportunity as the forum is non-bias);

How much support does the NZFBB get from the IFBB by way of assisting in setting up business cases for driving profitability etc? Increasing the income streams through merchandise and other events. I think if an athlete is fortunate to recieve funding they should repay the generosity by participating in demos / seminars etc. Having owned and operated a health club previously I think there is definate benefits to club owners and the federation in driving memberships on both sides and increasing PT/Supplement spend for clubs etc.

I think in the current economic climate businesses and organisations need to re-invent the way the work and look to collaborate together to find ways to strengthen their futures.

The website would be a perfect avenue for the prospective committee/presidents to put forward their case for selection.

Great idea, Mike! It would certainly be good for our members to not only know who is standing but also see what their credentials and intentions are - well before the meeting so they have time to study the options before the voting.

What would happen if they lied their way in? Saying they will do something and then not doing it, it's quite easy to make yourself look good on paper.

True, but I'm sure a lot of people do that on their CV's ... and you only have to look at most political party promises pre-election to see that a lot of what they "promise" is not delivered!
