To those who said trainers are a waste of time i find that a really ignorant statement on your behalf.

firstly people who are joining a gym may have an array of issues that may need to be programmed around hence some strange movements etc....not saying this is the case but dont be so quick to call out "cerial box trainer". Also some people pay trainer not for performance but for motivation to make there sessions or believe it or not just having someone there to talk to.

Admittedly i have issues with the weekend courses where by people are qualified but some may turn out to be very competent trainers based on experience etc.

And if your bagging trainers saying there useless....well who do you think all your top pro favorites are using? A lot (for example kia green) work with trainers (eg the likes of charlies glass) nutritionist etc. All Blacks and npc/super 14 teams use trainers and conditioning coaches etc.

Just because you know how to lift weights for bodybuilding does not mean you are an expert on the matter...to be honest id call you a gym rat (no offense to gym rat) at best until you get up on stage.

Sorry to rant but those comments aggravate me as a lot of trainers actually are good at what they do but people are often first to critique them.

Rant over :)

I agree NZPT, whilst the BBuilding trainiing is enjoyable and rewarding for the highly motivated and hard training, only a small percentage of clients come to see trainers with those goals in mind. It's a niche market. Some trainers specialize in this but the majority of the target market bhas different goals(fat loss, fitness increase, rehab etc).

Some exercises and loadings will look unusual to people with training experience but they are/should be prescribed for a reason by the trainer.

Many have orthopaedic issues which make some exercises un prescribable until clients have reached a pain free range of motion and co ordination in simpler body weight and stability,

It may be fun throwing around a ton of weight in the gym but not everyone is inclined, able or even wants to. Thats one of the reasons why BBuilding and Power and Olympic Lifting are such demanding, intense sports.

Cole aint no bodybuilder bro! He just lifts weights, aint never seen him diet. Works at the sausage factory so its to easy to eat crap I guess.

Granted he goes hard on the leg press although I smash him in the squat-rack and thats all that really matters aye

Lol who are you? Cole knows a lot I reckon.

LOL??? You're comparing Charles Glass with your average every day trainer though??? I fucking doubt Kai Greene would travel here to physiques fitness centre to ask for tips / get personally trained. But hey, that's just my opinion though. To each their own I guess.

Ofcourse some people get trainers for other issues... But there are some personal trainers that come to my gym that look like your everyday clubbing person. A beer gut and a face with no life / motivation.

And in my opinion, if you're eating every 2-3 hours and training.. To me, you are a body builder...

That's my rant to some of you guys. CBF'd quoting Lol.

*In b4 mad reply*

lol, I had a personal trainer that was great. If it wasn't for him I'd probably still be stuck at 75kgs, working out every muscle group 6 times a week.

yea i used to do that too, same exercises every time too. lol then i got a personal trainer, he showed me a bunch of bullshit exercises that had no use to me or my goals which i had told him....

not saying there all like this as some of you obviously know your stuff, but there is some shit ones out there.

all good guys just like to verify a few points as it started to sound like a PT bashing session.

i know first hand the quality of some trainers as i have seen them at work an thought WTF! But lets be honest you get that in any industry...some are good...some are ok...some are bad.

Rants over now and wasnt having a go at you boostn or looch either just defending an industry that have alot of wise people in it.

Also maybe i am out of the loop with smaller gyms but you may find you end up with some average trainers there..larger commercial places have alot of trainers who have to really push to be the best to ensure at the end of the day there rep is upheld so they continue to get clients and make a living (most of which enjoy what they do). Not to mention systems in place to ensure quality.

Im not really sure - Ive had a few operations on me knees in the last 3 years which could definately be a contributing factor. I shall be trying the 2 ton leg press tonight and shall see how that goes. There arent enough plates in the gym so I will have to get some guys to sit on the leg press

Had like 570 kilogram's on the leg press and used up all the plates and everyone looked mad but couldn't do anything about it.

The big question is 'did he unload after he was finished?'

There is a small group at the gym I go to that leave shit lying on the floor or on the bars. maggots. They are the same people who flex in the mirrors after having their spotter do all the lifting. Is there a pattern?
