Fitness & Figure competitors gaining weight.

A lot of fitness figure competitors worry about gaining weight back after the show they are doing. They are scared to death to lose the lean abs, the tight glutes, the cut arms. These figure chicks tell me they see how out of shape all figure pros seem to be when they are not on stage and they are surprised to find out that the women´s claims of being only 2 lbs from contest weight when not competing is one big fat lie.

I never understood this off season reasoning. Who wants to look like a thick german bratwurst to pack on some pounds of muscle and feel strong just to lose it all again for the next show and end up with the same old physique? Everyone who competes swears THIS time, yes THIS time they will stay in shape, but then the reality hits and oops it took some work and dedication to maintain too. You need to see that coming. Overeating for two days will of course set you back. It may seem unfair but what you lost in months can be regained in a few days fat wise.

There is not even a point for figure girls to have some kind of bodybuilding offseason. I mean, how much muscle mass is on these girls? Not that much you need to grow like a bodybuilder. Not if you have patience and realize you are not gonna get a killer physique in three months. It takes years! for that reason it is extremely important to enjoy what you do on a regular basis diet wise and training wise. Because it´s gonna be hell of a lot of repeating of those good muscle promoting habits that you may find boring. If you are impatient, well, forget about it doing it the natural way anyway. And if you choose to take a short cut you will not keep what you got in the long run.

The key to stay lean is to prepare yourself for what is going to occur after the show time is over. You WILL gain some water weight, but listen, if you don´t binge on the bad stuff you won´t get fat over night. After that, remember, a diet that got you lean will keep you lean. If you start eating more than usual of course your body will sense it and add fat AND muscle.

The tough thing for people to realize is that staying in great shape ALL the TIME is that it´s as simple as practicing discipline day in and day out and learn to love it. There is no other way.

My wife Maree agrees with this and now stay at about 4% body fat all year round.

If you need any help with this you can email her

I think it is unhealthy for women to stay so lean all year round. There are basic biological functions that a female's body is designed to undertake, e.g. menstruation. I would like to see studies completed to see how detrimental staying this lean all year round is on a female, only then one would be in a position to comment.

Most of your post has been pulled from Pauline Nordin's blog ... http://fighterdiet.com/blog/

Do you not think if you are going to quote someone else word for word you should let people know where it's come from?

pwned  totally agree

thanx for the link Truds i really like her site

No worries! I check it every day for daily motivation, if you click on 'Everyday Pauline' she posts up (usually) daily photos of her condition ... it's insane! :notworthy:

Is that 14% Allen, which is pretty lean for a female year round.

If not, I'd be checking your calipers! 4% is probably unattainable for 99+% of woman including Womans Pro Physique competitors (and you were talking fitness class - haven't seen a 4% in this ever!).

Pauline is great - I do the same thing and check her out for motivation and ideas.

But when it all boils down to it, to stay in contest shape you have to work hard day in day out, diet and be strick. Its constant motivation and disipline. I have to admit I'm lacking in both when it comes to diet until I start competition diet, but I think it's ok, cause my OFF SEASON is a break mentally, and allows freedom. I love training at the gym that is no issue, the diet is just a means to an end for me to show my hard work. Keeps it fun!

But hey if you can wake every morning motivated and do your 45 min + cardio before breakfast, put in a hard training session later on, and return for some pm cardio while eating 1,500 cals or less per day... while holding down a job or running a household day in and day out FOREVER, then more power to you

Gotta be a typo - isn't it, cause otherwise I'm still a fatty on stage come comp day!

Sorry guys it is not a typo error. We do our own body fat test which is taken over 9 sites but doesn’t take age or height into perspective. She had a body fat test done by Alison at RNC and had her at 5% and this is the off season on a 1,800 to 2,200 cal without doing any cardio. Admittedly she is way to lean but that’s the way she is.

This is achieve when you know how to eat the right food to which she know’s a lot about as all her food is super clean and has lots of flavour added to it.

And yes a lot of the girls here will never achieve the look that they require and maintain all year round due to bad advice.

Interesting thread, I can relate to the topic as I became a fatty quite quickly even after vowing and declaring it wasnt going to happen to me, it does boil down to common sense however, and that good old equation if you put in more than you burn off, you may gain a kg or two of unwanted flubber!

I agree its not healthy to remain stage condition lean all round, but there isnt really an excuse outside of overeating and underexercising not to stay in great shape.

One that would inspire me is gmm - she looks great all year round and yes there is a slight increase but minimal. Her secret, not a surprise, eats well all year round and works out with 100% effort. I will giving that a whirl this year.
