100% CASEIN PROTEIN

Sometimes slower is better - especially when it comes to the rate of protein digestion. While rapid protein absorption is desirable immediately before or after exercise, delayed release is probably more beneficial throughout the remainder of the day.

Casein proteins are pH sensitive and gel in the acidic environment of the stomach. As a result, it can take more than twice as long for caseins to be broken-down into their amino acid subcomponents than whey and other proteins. Because of their unique time-released qualities, caseins are aptly described as anti-catabolic or muscle-protecting proteins.

Beyond The Basics

  • 24 g of Highly Anti-Catabolic MICELLAR CASEIN
  • 10 g of BCAAs, Glutamine, and Glutamine Precursors per Scoop
  • AMINOGEN Enhanced

Taste in water:7/10

This is a very sweet Protein Powder, and i found that the vanilla flavour in water lacked taste, but it did thicken up slightly, and it made me think of sugar and vanilla essence

Taste in Milk:8/10

I find it is better tasting in Milk, and makes quite a nice shake, as it thickens up

Cost:7/10

It is not cheap, however, as i use it to mix in with a whey protein powder(Horleys ICE) i find that it lasts me a while, and i get more protein then i would in a blend (and I like the ability to control the ratio of Whey to casein)

  • 2lb:It has an RRP of around 80, but after a quick look it appears to be available for $70 (From Sportstrition).
    Around $2.50 per serving
  • 4lb: It has an RRP of around 128, but after a quick look it appears to be available for $103 (From Sportstrition).
    Around $1.84 per serving

Nutrient Makeup:8/10

Protein Blend (Micellar Casein,, Calcium Caseinate), Natural And Artificial Flavors, Salt, Lecithin, Gum Blend (Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Carrageenan), Sucralose, Aminogen®, Yellow #5

Aminogen®

Aminogen, a vital ingredient in high-quality protein supplements, is clinically proven to increase amino acid levels and boost nitrogen retention. Developed by Triarco Industries, Aminogen is a patented, designer enzyme which breaks down protein and improves amino acid absorption. A natural, plant-derived enzyme, Aminogen is ideal for increasing lean body mass and strength and promoting deep muscle recovery. And Aminogen does all this while supporting protein digestion and reducing or eliminating the gas, bloating and constipation protein can sometimes cause. Get more out of your protein and get bigger, stronger…faster™with Aminogen.

Nothing spectacular here, but the Aminogen enzyme could potentially be useful...depending on how much of it is hype...

Overall, it has 0g saturated or trans fat, and only 3g carbs, with 1g Dietry fibre, which is fairly clean.

Mixibility:3/10

I have had times when i have stuck it in a blender and i still find that the protein hasn't dissolved. The only way i can get it to mix is by warming up the liquid that i'm mixing it with, however, i have to be careful not to warm it up too much otherwise there is a risk of denaturing the proteins.

Side Effects:9/10

None that i'm aware of

Other Notes:

This protein powder is better suited for someone who already has a whey protein, and wants to either mix it in in order to provide a sustained release protein., or for taking before bed.

Overall:7/10

Overall, this is a good protein powder, but needs to be second in priority to a good whey protein. I find it keeps me fuller for longer then simply drinking Whey, and helps to provide flavour to the mix. The biggest downside is the difficulty in mixing it, and i have received feedback from others who have experienced similar problems.

A final note, any feedback is always appreciated, and I apologise for any errors I may have made.

i'm pretty sure the magic bullet is closer to a blender....

unless yours is broken...

but i don't have the time to clean my blender every time I want a shake.(as i live at home still, it would be a requirement after I'm finished)

I can put the powder in the bottom of the jar, screw the lid on, and add water(or milk) later when i need it.

It's cheap.

It's portable,

it has a screw lid (i once had a very bad experience with a top coming off once...)

oh, and it comes with free Marmite...not sure if that is always a good thing though...

I think it might become a problem when i start to use mass gainer shakes though...

Mabye I'll just have to use 2 then.....

Anyone else have any quirky protein shakers?

i use the choc flavour of this product, either before bed or when I wake up in the middle of the night for that inevitable trip to the toilet!! 1-2 level scoops does the trick. Certainly would help with recovery, plus defend against catabolism

How would you rate the taste of the chocolate flavour?

also, how well do you find that it mixes?
