Vitamin & Mineral absorption

I have recently bought some vitamin and minerals (Healtheries brand) to add to my diet as I felt that I wasn't really all the vitamins I need from my diet and the fact that I probably use up more micro and macro nutrients from working out.

The problem is the first pee I take an hour after I took the pill, my urine is really yellow. Like almost a fluoresent yellow. I have a sneaking suspicion that the vitamins are running straight through my body with minimum absorption. I take it in the morning after my muesli as recommended by my friend as the muesli is supposed to absorb, at least some portion of the vitamins, and slowly gets released as the muesli (fibre) gets broken down.

Anybody else react the same way as me to the vitamins (particularly the pill form) can shed some light on whether or not I'm absorbing the vitamins as I should?

I'll probably won't buy any more when I'm finished with this pack if I'm not really getting much out of it.

With most water based vitamins you will only absorb what you need, hence not overly toxic - just makes your urine expensive!

Cheap multi's tend to be full of B-vitamins, hence the yellow piss!

Not worth worrying about, if your diets good just use a reputable brand of multi & you'll be okay.

If you are prone to deficiencies of one kind or another (diagnosed clinically by bloodwork - not the local naturopath!) you may need to look at specific supplementation.

Type urine colour into Google and check out the results.

E.g........................

Yellow urine

Excess sweating could result in the urine becoming a deeper yellow. Also, it is a sign that you have not been drinking enough liquids

Why does my urine go a fluorescent yellow colour when I take any multivitamin suppliment?

Your body can only use a certain amount of any substance at any one time. Anything that the body can't use is excreted.

That is all that is happening here. Your body is simply excreting the excess vitamins and minerals that it cannot use and this is what is colouring your urine. There is no cause for alarm, and in fact, it shows that your lymphatic and renal systems are working properly.

Usually happens when your system is offloading a high dosage of Vitamin C or b vitamins. . A good vitamin pill that is high in concentrate will make you off load a bright yellow pee a hour or two after taking it. Your body can only absorb some much during one period. ( like your skin with sunscreen ) This is the bodys natural mechanism to dump what it cant use at that stage.

Asparagus also makes your pee very bright i've found. Yellow colour indicates that a person is able to flush out acids stored in the body; I would rather have bright yellow pee than clear pee a hour after vitamins.
