Food to energy

I know I could google the answer for this but I like the answers here :)

So...how long does your body take to convert food you have eaten into usable energy? Obviously it depends on the food (simple/complex) but a rough guide maybe?

I ask as I have done some cardio sessions then about 2-3 hours later (after refueling) done a leg session and felt a bit worn out earlier than normal....

If I leave my gym session till the end of the day with cardio in the morning its not an issue...and yes I have sorta answered my own question but just trying to figure out some timings :)

Interesting question though, I immediately thought that it would depend on the GI of the food you ate and still think it might. Low GI food would not be available for energy so soon (some would as the release is immediate but slow), but it's a guess and if someone can google the answer that'd be good to know, great question!

I do know that unused carbs can last about 36 hours I think to be used for energy before they're moved on to be stored as fat or expelled. Hence why you can eat for tomorrow's workout, today :-)

Good to know. I always wondered why people would have cheat meals the night before leg training, I guess that's the answer.
