I use Picassa. Good for cutting and cropping but a little fiddly for stretching.

yea im mainly just after one that can put two pics together, e.g. a pic from a few months ago next to a recent pic.

GIMP is usually suggested as the free alternative to photoshop, but I don't know how easy it is to use. It's free though, so it can't hurt to have a play.

Paint .net is a pretty good free editor. No it's not related to the crappy Windows Paint except in name only

You do need .net installed on your PC though (which most people should have).

Just use a free online image editor It can do basically everything most people use image editors for... they've pretty much copied photoshop and put it online, so you don't have to have any software installed to use it.
