I do some stretching during the workout & after but I would like to know more about stretching in particular, the legs & the back. If any of the experts here in Physiology & Yoga etc could post up some of their favourites or link me to some good sites on the net, Utube etc, it would be great . Tks mnz

When i first started working out (and well up till recently) I would start my work out with a run or 45 - 60 min of cardio of some kind - but now i do a warm up of 20 - 30 min cardio just to get my blood pumpin (needed after a 12hr night shift LOL)

then work whatever body part i'm doin that day

After i do More cardio

then Stretch the groups i worked and always ALWAYS do legs - that way i'm not goin in cold into hockey seasion - very bad on the groin to ignor it then try to do the splits!!! :shifty:

Otago uni has carried out extensive research on stretching and they say there is no hard evidence to suggest that it is essential. However they also say if you have always stretched prior to exersise keep on doing it.

And they say it MAY prevent injury but there is no hard evidence.

The research is really helpful (not) and i am glad my tax money goes to such a worth while cause :?

yeah i know someone who had an injury from not stretching and he still hasnt recovered in over a year...

ive been stretching before my workout and during my sets if i feel the muscle start cramp or even hypertense eg biceps forearms calves jump between my sets of calves i typically stretch chest back and legs between new exercises. when i need to i listen to my body. im gunna start stretching post workout as well.

another thing i like to do is practice my form between sets the complete motion just another preventative of injury and prepares you well.

i find that kind of sad that otagi uni would come up with that LOL how can you squat with stiff muscles or dumbbell fly with stiff rotator cuff it makes me queezy thinking about that how can people do that for so long? they would be getting a stretch on their first set but sometimes their first sets are their max weight which is insane.

Some more studies...but it suggests very little positives on stretching.

But i do strech after a good warm up set and strech even more after the compound exercises.

Also just wondering, if its ok to stretch randomly at work when you have DOMS the next day after legs or chest or wateva? (i feel a lot better after the stretch though, less soreness)

Thanks.
