Hey guys, so my mates a farmer, an he's happy hook me up with milk straight form the vat. So what I want to know is..

Is this stuff safe to drink?

Would it have a very high fat content?

Would it have a much higher protein count then the processed stuff of the shelf?

All good for a bulking diet?

Haha when I read the title of this thread I thought you wanted to drink the milk straight from the cow! You know, directly from the cow! :pfft:

I would have thought you would get the green apple splatters from drinking milk that hasnt been pasturised. :?

Fresh unpasteurized milk is great stuff, drink as much as you can, full of everything you need to grow and be healthy

Really? So it doesnt contain campylobacter and other bacteria? :?

As far as Im aware there is about a 0.1% chance of getting sick from it. I nor no one I know has ever had any problems

If thats the case then why even bother pasteurizing the stuff? :?

Stays for longer.. fresh milk even refrigerated wont last as long I believe.

Besides, you know the 0.1% quoted by Dr. Jackal... if that is correct, 0.1% of a population of 4 million = 40,000.

I am certain 40,000 ppl in NZ would choose rather not to risk being

potentially ill on any given day due to the consumption of fresh milk.

At present all milk in New Zealand is pasteurised - heated briefly to kill potentially harmful organisms - before consumption. Pasteurisation involves heating milk for 15 seconds at 72degC then cooling it very quickly.

If you can get it straight from the farm - Go for it!

I am positive more health problems are caused by pasteurized milk than non pasteurized, lactose intolerance and dairy allergies for example, lactose intolerant people can happily drink raw malk because it contains enzymes to break down the lactose naturally. The number of children these days with allergies to pretty much everything is astounding and it is as a direct result of food processing IMO.

Also raw milk does not actually go "off" it will be perfect to drink for at least 2 weeks if kept in the fridge and then it will slowly start turning into more of a yoghurt like consistancy which is still a near perfect food sorce. Many cultures dont consume the milk untill it has turned.
