So how good are pies? i mean i know its full of fat, but im just after putting on weight, during my job i always just stop by a dairy for morning tea and grab a pie, then a pie again for lunch, then maybe another one, because they taste good, are cheap and fulling. Is this bad or good

i would say they are totally crap. plus one pie doesnt do anything to fill you up anyway. you would need to be getting liek 4 at a time. not the best idea.

just prepare food the previous nite, take it in containers to your job.

Tuna in Rice.

Grill a few kgs of chicken and store it in the fridge for about 2 days.

Take that with rice and BBQ/ Sweet Chilli Sauce.

Stir fry some chicken and eggs.

Grill red meat.

Anything except pies :pfft:

big bump. a staple i use when im out and about is tuna/rice. cheap, very easy. and good

If you're pressed for time, don't have any food and have an access to a dairy/whatever eat your pie. It's better than nothing. It won't hurt your gains if you have pies every now and then as long as you don't make it your priority to eat pies on a constant basis.

 You beat me to it! Obviously, try to have something better like the meals people have suggested above. But if one day you're caught short, a pie is better than nothing.

Sure, it's full of saturated fat, high GI carbs, and probably not much protein, but it will stop catabolism so at least you're not breaking down muscle to fuel your body.

eating just about anything will be better than nothing. Why eat pies unless there is absolutly nothing else, unless on the other hand you love them so much you cant go without and then make it your cheat food. Otherwise forget pies! Especially those mass produced ones a few bakeries do make some really good home made ones full of good cuts of meat.

^ That was the only NZ pie nutrition data I could find. My point was that pies probably have more protein than most other snack foods available from the dairy. As for the carbs/fat, well, I was actually pleasantly surprised with those figures. I don't know how typical they are though...

i have found that if you are desperate for food, go into a sub way. get a double roast chicken 6 inch. damn site nicer than a pie, and heaps less fat. fast and convenient

Subway is my fast food of choice. Though I still have a MacD's burger every now and then, but steer clear of the fries!

yeah i think that alot of people are un nescersarily restricting their convenience food. mostly consisting of mc d. pies, KFC, or wendy's.

I have found that good alternatives. are salmon Sushi.

subway, kebabs with rice,

or even Bruger fuel as long as the mayo and aioli is taken out. the chicken or beef is pretty lean. now even better with the small buger buns.

honestly i stear well clear of pies. most of the crust is animal fat (not butter), the beef is low quality and most of it is gravey anyway.

Well, instead of buying pies for lunch now, i went to the super market and bought a couple cans of tuna, brown grain bread, cheese and tartar sauce, so for lunch i have a can of tuna in a sandwhich with a few slices of cheese and tartar sauce to drown out the disgusting taste of the tuna, thats a good lunch right?
