There are three ratios, 1day, depending on your height i.e.

1. Up to and including 170 cm

Maximum weight (in kg) = height (in cm) – 100 (maximum +2 kg allowance)

e.g. a competitor who is 170 cm in height may weigh a maximum of 72 kg.

2. Up to and including 178 cm

Maximum weight (in kg) = height (in cm) – 100 (maximum +4 kg allowance)

e.g. a competitor who is 178 cm in height may weigh a maximum of 82 kg .

3. Over 178 cm

Maximum weight (in kg) = height (in cm) – 100 (maximum +6 kg allowance)

e.g. a competitor who is 184 cm in height may weigh a maximum of 90 kg.

This class was introduced by the NZFBB in 2007, with average competitor numbers per event being about 3 to 4. Due to this moderate number we only have one combined class per event, but this could well change if numbers increase noticably in the future.

I think a lot of people have been considering the classic class. But Aron Noble stepped up last year at the nats and set the bar very high.

With a physique like that it's going to be tough for anyone to knock him off the top this year.

I hope the class attracts the numbers it need to get split into at least a couple of different divisions.

Can anyone tell me If you have competed in the classic mens class and placed and want to compete in the physique class the next year, can you compete as a novice?

As I understand the rules YES you can. Best PM MasterTel or Big MD for confirmation

That's an excellent question, T Rex! I've had to study our contest rules on this one, and yes - you can compete as a Novice if you have placed or even won a Classic class in a previous year. The only mention of not being eligible to compete as a Novice is if you have won either a Novice or Masters/Senior class before. The rules were changed in the past year or two to even exclude 2nd & 3rd place winners at Nationals from losing their Novice eligibility i.e. you now need to win a class to lose it.

I don't believe this rule should be changed to include Classic class winners - at least not until they allow the Classic winner to contest the Overalls at an event. They (judges) have made a distinction between Physique and Classic by not allowing the Classic winner to stand next to the Physique class winners in the Overall lineup (which is probably fair), so a Classic winner should therefore be able to compete as a Novice in a future event if they want to (unless they also win either a Novice, Open or Masters class).

Anyone know Aron's height and weight on stage out of curiosity?

All I know is he is pretty short, I would imagine he would be pretty close to the upper limit on the weight though as its a well rounded full physique.

As for 1Day

97-98kg am getting a bf done today , hope i not sitting much more than 12%

Did you not just take the stage? and you are back at 97-98kg a week later. You machine you :pfft:

Having stood next to him last year I agree hes a bloody tank for his height and poses very well which adds to the illusion of being big.

I think the biggest problem anybody will have to beat him wont be size BUT condition. Easily one of the best condition guys in all classes.

You going to compete this year Weener Lad ? The more quality competitors the more people will want to come and watch.

Maybe you can knock Aaron off top spot. :-s

Yeah like weener, stood next to him at Nth Islands (Aaron) and Nats last year. It was my first year in the sport and he is not only well conditioned but a GREAT fella'!

It is obvious that he knows his body well and his category, preps precisely back stage using similar pump up - routine, leading in2 stage presentation, knows what works for him and is really clean year round. Great to have a benchmark in Classic and I believe the class will grow. Hopefully it will attract the leaner guys and not get too many big fulla's slipping across that think they cannot be competitive in weight classes; I am also a master so looking forward to the day when they get enuf' competitors to have a Masters Classic Class - that's 1 thing that appeals to me about NABBA (haven't competed in that Fed. as yet), they have varying classes of Athletic.

Why these rules are different from IFBB rules?

My height is 175.5 cm. Accoding IFBB rules I am in 175-180 cm category (max +6 kg allowance) but accoding your statement - (max +4kg allowance) - this is 2 kg differece.

Second thing. Last year in Ch-ch we did not have Front and Back spead poses at all in the moning but again accoding IFBB rules Prejudging (moning part) has Elimination Round (four poses) and Round 1 (seven poses).

Is it a confusion with NABBA Athletic class?

Thanks very much for mentioning this, Boris - I had no idea the formulas and posing rules had changed (on March 21 this year). Up until then, the 3 height classes (and required poses) matched the official IFBB standard, but if they have changed then the NZFBB judges need to be informed so we can implement these at our next event - in Chch on Sept 12, which I assume you will be competing in again this year? I was looking after the music at that show, and also competed in the Classic class there in 2007. 2007 had 7 decent competitors and I was certainly very impressed with the quality of last year's line up (including you and weener lad) and I was a bit surprised not to see you at Nationals last October.

I'll make sure these new rules are passed to our Judge's Chairman (Brian McFarlane) so he can instruct the judges. Sometimes our rules don't exactly match those of the IFBB (as many of their rules apply to World Championship format with classes of 30+) but either way I will make sure that the agreed changes are published on the NZFBB website (which I administer) asap.
