The need for nzbb stickies?

Recommended Posts

This post is more aimed towards the senior members/mods, and just a thought..

Firstly congrats to pseudonym for his site having such awesome growth!

how do others feel on this? if it is agreed, maybe mods could post up threads titled with the appropriate stickies, eg creatine for beginners, macronutrient ratio guide etc, im sure members here would happily post up thorough, accurate info that with minor fettling to mould em all together would create an excellent base info source for new members?

not a complaint at all, just a thought and suggestion?

Also have a guide for the newbies on the diffrent supplements that are out there including the various brands that are other as well for the likes Balance,EAS,Horleys etc.

guides on supps definitley, though talking about brands specifically tends to lean towards opinions over facts, thats more of the 'supp reviews' category.

i think!

A list of the diffrent mags that are there for the likes of Flex,Ironman, musclemag, muscle and fitness, muscalar development, muscle fitness for her which would save any newbie when they go into any major book shop that sells muscle mags on figureing out which mag to buy on which one to buy for when the start out also reviews on the diffrent mags that are out there including the average cost as well.

I could write reviews about Flex magazine on this site to tell new newbies what I thinking Flex including the pro and cons. The only time that I would buy musclemag would be when I flying to weare ever that may.

  • 1 month later...

I think that a MOD or admin should start 1 sticky with an uncomplete list of stickies we need, then people can volunteer to cover that topic/area. then once they have that base article people can add as appropriate. This will help reduce duplication of information, otherwise people will have to read through too much information, and may get confused if 2 people post opposite things.

But i think stickies are 1 thing that this site is missing, and would be a great improvement.

And as for the brand reviews, i'll take Horleys  . See the problem with this? I think if you wanted, you could post background infor on the brand.. eg. established in... specialises in... notable products. And/Or you could have a poll... 'Would you recommend this brand"

i think its a good idea too..........................but, i think its gona be a waste of time as newbees are still gona be to lazy and not look for them, and theyl continue to post up new topics even though the very questions they are asking exist in several topics. i just think there shud be a limit b4 a newbee can start a topic so it gives them a change to acually look for the answer b4 repeating an old topic/question

just my thoughts anyways

Yea, but i think that it will help to significantly reduce the amount of such questions.

Also, when someone asks such a question, we can simply link to the sticky and tell them to stop being lazy.

Telling a newbie to go look at the rules or the FAQs and not to be lazy presents a risk they might never come back and join a discussion. I reckon we want to encourage people to ask questions in a supportive environment.

We can already post links to threads for more info, and we do.

A relaxed and supportive forum allows us to learn from each other rather than the idea that only the mods or senior members can offer good advice.

I like the way new people can ask questions even if they have been asked a million times before. When I can answer some of those questions myself I know I'm cleverer than I was when I first joined. And you know what they say about learning by repetition.

I like the way threads move to the top to respond to the most recent post so the whole site is constantly changing and dynamic.

We could add to the list of drop downs under the resources tab to include headings on food questions, common injuries etc, instead of creating stickies.

I don’t like the idea of restricting supp reviews to particular reviewers either. Everyone should be able to review and to comment. I mean you can give a great review for a protein powder, but it means squat to me if I can’t digest the casein in it. Or you rave about the banana flavour and I hate bananas.

One thing I didn’t like when I joined, and this lasted only a month of so, was the endless posting from online shops all selling the same products, bitching about each other, and going nuts to offer a discount 50 cents less than the next guy. Mmmmm actually it was kind of fun now I think back.

i agree with most of that, but where do u draw the line, i mean at sum point the site may have to cap its band width or we may hav to start deleting topics to make room for new ones(or sumthing), so beter to try and get on top of it now and just get these newbees to doa a bit of reading b4 they do a bit of writing. 8)

At the very least, i think a sticky explaining how to ask a good question...

for example, "How do i lose xx KG" is difficul to answer, yet it frequently pops up. by having a sticky explaining what information helps us to answer their question, more questions will be answered

 I know i'm a newbee so i haven't been able to contribute much to the site yet but just reading everyone's concerns on this topic i had a thought...

What if when you do have a newbee come in and they ask an old question that one person replies with a simple ...

"hi welcome to the site - looking forward to helping with your goals - You're not alone with that topic if you look in ... name the forum ... under .... name the thread, I'm sure you'll get a few answers. Take a really good look at the site there may be some more topics that can help you out."

It's simple and to the point and gives them a gentle nudge in the right direction with out wearing down the senior members before they've even begun.

I know i've found A LOT of info just cruzin around - LOVE THE RECIPES!!!!! OMG!!! =P~ =P~ =P~

And I've had so much input and motivation to keep going - you guys are better than my friends and family for that LOL I've found everyone here to be SUPER helpful and welcoming  ...... hmmm just thought i'd offer that thought

:shifty:

I have a few problems with stickies.

The first is "sticky clutter", where you have half a dozen topics stickied in every forum. No-one reads them. In fact, less than a third of the Playground members read the rules we stickied there. :P

The second is "sticky rage", where otherwise peaceful users shout at newbies who dare to ask a question that's been answered in a sticky. "READ THE @^%$#! STICKY!" is not the friendly welcome I'd like people to have when they come here.

The third is "gospel stickies", where a stickied article is presented as fact. We all know that if you ask 10 different bodybuilders how to train or eat, you'll get 10 different answer. Which one's right? Those debates are what this site was created for.

The fourth, I don't have a clever name for. But it's related to the third. When a question gets asked repeatedly, it often produces new answers each time. I've often seen a different angle on a question I thought I knew the answer to.

Having said that, I suspect what we've currently got under the Resources tab is too well hidden for people to find easily. Any thoughts on this would be welcomed.

As far as bandwidth and deleting topics goes, that shouldn't be an issue for a long while yet. Hopefully, by the time it is, the site will be able to pay for the extra capacity needed anyway.

Don't get me wrong. I understand it can get tedious answering the same thing over and over. So I'm not ruling out stickies - just playing devil's advocate. You're allowed to argue back. :D
