Agree , good on him for giving it a go but he is fat end of story. :)

It is harsh coments like this that put good people off the sport.

Jonah loves the sport and was great to every competitor there. There is a first time for everything and it wont be the last we see of him on stage. having said that the amount of reporters, photographers and tv cameras back stage is something you do not see at bodybuilding shows in NZ and it is definately something the sport needs, no matter what any one says there is no one on this forum that can bring more good publicity to bodybuilding in this country than Jonah.

Both Jonah and his mixed pairs partner Tracey(having survived cancer) are both inspirations to others.

classical tall poppy syndrome, he is one of the worlds greatest rugby legends, he is thankful to be alive and one of the most humble people you could meet. It amazes me that people is this country always like to put others down to make themselves feel better. Alot do this on this site too, yet dont have the balls to post a pic of themselves up for others to make comment or judge.

I said good on him for giving it a go and yes he is a sentimental favourite to you all but this is bodybuilding my friend if you are getting on stage at least be close , you seem to think he deserves special treatment and assesments should be sugarcoated because he is jonah lomu?..he is a good 12 weeks out , thats not shiting on him just being a realist..

Ive a friend who has had a kidney transplant and her drugs dont stop her comming in ripped when she gets onstage.

Its a assesment of whats presented , he isnt the only one that is still not contest ready , but it seems because its Jonah everyones talking about him, get over your tall poppy opinion , this is bodybuilding not rugby if he would of been closer than 12 weeks out I would of still given my opinion and said he looked great ..

NZMM was ripped off also , but there you go the judges see things through different eyes again.

Even putting bias aside, I have to agree with you there. Must have been close though.

I`ll get a few more photos on here shortly and hopefully the video of the couples routines if my limited technological knowledge dosent desert me.

Check out the rear double bicep shot of Jonah. It shows potential. I guess the important thing now is to back up his debut with another competition and show some real progress.

Mate if Jonah knuckles under over the next year or so he will be a monster on stage.Awesome genetic potential , I dont understand why people start having a cry when you give an honest non hating assesment of someone.

Its BB not a PC contest.

Once again a great show put on by terry. and a fun weekend had by all.

As some one mentioned the mens overall was a very close. very very close so i am looking fwd to seeing what the athletes bring to the stage come nationals.

As for Jonah, he knows where he is at he desnt need people telling him things he already knows, he got up on stge to prove something to hiself and his son, talking to a client of mine who is a doctor said considering some of the drugs he would need to be taking for what hes been through its pretty amazing. i obviously had front row seats and none of the photos i have seen really show the condition the Jonah was in. he wasnt in championship form but i have judged poeple that really shouldnt have been up there, HE DESERVED TO BE THERE.

One of the thinks i find interesting is that some say he shouldnt get any special treatment, and as a competitor he doesnt, but then on the same tocken on NZBB we have others saying this is a great marketing tool for the NZFBB and need to be used, in the end it poor old Jonah that is caught in the middle.

i have had the pleaseure of meeting Jonah a number of times, i have had a number of pics taken with him (a couple of us posing last night back stage) and one of the highlights of my years traveling around NZ judging and posing... was being asked for an Autograph on a poster by Jonah.  i felt very honoured to be asked

He has a great trainer behind him in Joe. So just the average guy for a day trying a new sport where he knows he may never be the best and enjoying himself while giving some inspiration to others and his son, why would you want to bag that?? :? :?

Jonah if you read this well done and i hope one day to have a throw round with some weights when you are in ChCh next.

Well done to all the other athelets with some real stand outs and some good new blood coming through

Which one was he? Apologies for ignorance, but new to all this.

Unfortunately I needed to leave just before it all finished so missed out on seeing who won the final bits. I see on Go Figure that Neralee won Figure, and I think she is the one who also won the best female routine? My memory just isn't good enough to retain all of the names read out in the evening! If she's the one I think she is, my completely inexpert opinion is that she was a well-deserved winner. Stunning body.

I also know the name of the winner of the men's overall physique thanks to Go Figure, but not sure which one he was. Anyone know which number he was? I had my own favourite for winner of that category (inexpert opinion once again!), but there were so many of them, that I can only place bodies with numbers.

This New Zealand trait of ripping to bits people who are famous or very successful in aspects of thier lives f*** me off.

I would like to see you guys (that are picking everyone to bits) up on stage - and let us have a go at you. From my understanding some of you have never been up on stage - so I'm sorry, but until you have, your comments are are a joke and not worth the hours you spend sitting on this site telling others where they need to 'make changes'. Get over yourselves!

With all due respect mate I think you need to learn how to read..No one is bashing him , just giving an assesment of where he is , just like I did with NZMM , my viewpoint is he got ripped off and was the best in his class , why not zero in on that critique as well?

Bobybuilding is a visual sport where people give opinion just as MNZ says so is rugby , if he played a bad game people would comment if he played a great game again people would comment , we all know how hard it is getting into contest ready condition but the fact is jonah is not contest ready..If anyone else got up there looking like that Id give exact same feedback just as if Jonah was looking ripped and ready I would say so..why do you think he deserves special treatment because he played rugby?

This isnt a hero worshipping sport.

Again good on him for getting into decent shape though not contest shape. :)

James I think alot of your later comments are much more correct. As you have been saying " not in contest shape" is a much better way of critiquing someone than saying " he is fat end of story" weather it be Jonah or anyone else there can be better ways of giving feedback. may be that is why some of us made these comments regarding your post.

I'm sorry that you feel you need to make this personal as your comments are obviously directed at me. I find this very disappointing given the support & encouragement I have shown your partner over the last year. I can't understand how you can get so up tight about a couple of comments made on Jonahs condition which were not made in any derogatory manner & that were in fact the consensus by people in the sport that I have spoken to today. As far as I am aware we still have freedom of speech in New Zealand.

You are correct in that I am not a competing BBer. I do not have a burning desire to prove myself in front of an audience, nor do I feel I am at a level sufficient to win, although some may disagree with that. I still regard myself as a Bodybuilder & are passionate about the sport & I have areas within the sport that I work in, as you know. I do not believe just because you have not stood up on stage that your comments cannot be valued. The time I spend on this site is 90% directed at assisting people with their AAS concerns & yes it does amount to many hours which I totally enjoy & are happy to spend, even though I have a very busy life in my own personal & business endeavours.

I dont know what personal stuff is goin on here but I can only speak highly of MNZ.He is always ready to help and give advice when asked both here and over on Justins forum.

I dont see his comments or mine as negative though I do say sorry for my first post :)

I regard his crtiquing as first rate when it comes to bodybuilding his opinion in my eyes are and should be held in high regard.

Anyway hopefully Jonah sticks at it even though I understand he is wanting to play rugby still , but he does have good genetics and with some fine tuning would be a beast up there. :)

Is that NZMM in the red? What's his real name? I ask because there were a couple of results that I was surprised about, one in a men's round and one in a women's - but I can't remember exactly which was the men's round I was surprised about. This one might be the one (again, having trouble putting names against faces, but if I know his name, I'll know if it's the one I thought the second placer would come first).

I noted the Herald had a photo this morning and reported Jonah as being in the Novice over 90 with three others. This was also recorded in the Dominion a few days ago.

I was wondering if he had initially intended on being in the Novice section and had decided at short notice to do the open.

Sunday Star Times has him in the right division, but second in a field of 3. I guess they were looking at the number of people on stage, and not listening to the actual divsions represented on stage.
