Give me a few minutes. I've got 300 of the buggers to process. Just culling the duplicates and failures now. :D

Well, I'd hoped that lessons would have been learned after this year's Auckland Champs. But apparently not.

At 9am, when the show was due to start, everyone was ushered out of the auditorium so their tickets could be checked/bought. Those hoping to buy tickets using eftpos were out of luck. The eftpos machine hadn't arrived - sound familiar?! I believe one did turn up eventually, and the show finally started an hour late.

When we did get let in, we were sent to the mezzanine balcony at the back, leaving the closer tables on the ground floor completely empty (see first photo). This put a big gap between us and the competitors, and I think it's the reason why the crowd was so quiet. After half-time, we were allowed down to the tables, but that spread the crowd very thinly. Short of having seating rows instead tables on the ground floor, I'm not sure how you'd resolve that one. It'll be interesting to hear from people at the evening show how they find the atmosphere when the tables are full of VIPs.

There was an apology made for the late start. Apart from the eftpos issue, they'd also been suffering printer problems, which made it difficult to draw up the competitor lists. I'm told the problem with the printer was that no-one had thought to bring one.

It's fair to say the crowd was not impressed. Particularly the families who were doing an amazing job of controlling increasingly restless children. I eavesdropped on the people in front, who were new to bodybuilding, but came to support a family member:

"We've been waiting an hour for a national event."

"You know why? It's because there's a bunch of meatheads running it."

It's not a good look for the sport when what's supposed to be the pinnacle of the competitors' year attracts these sorts of comments.

On a more positive note, once the show was underway, things seemed to run pretty smoothly. There was a good competitor turnout, which meant a lot of decently-sized classes. (Decently-sized competitors, too!)

Speaking of which:

Onekawa is Numero Uno!

Both Darryn and Nathan looked great and Darryn got the nod, great work mate.

Classic Class was ultra competitive as predicted and in the u/70kg congrats to Loochi who won his class, looked great mate excellent symmetry!

Also Sanjeev had fantastic proportions, wasp waist and massively wide clavicles, a good quality show!

I wonder if Aron will be able to defend his title. Boris and Chris looked awesome, so did Dave. I haven't seen the others though.. So hard to tell. If Aron wins again, he's the ultimate classic competlol.

lol hmm a bit sarcastic , well i guess you were right he is the ultimate classic

competitor , actually the under 70s are lucky he didnt compete in that class LOL. :pfft:

Well done to all those who competed, excellent effort and from the pics a great quality show.

Judging by the pics the classic class was probably one of the closest, esp between Aron 1st Dave 2nd and Chris 3rd. It must have been close and tough for the judges. Im interested in from those of you who were there. Did you all pic the same places or did anyone else see it different.

thanks

It was real close in the classic, all the top three were in great shape, the 2nd placed guy was the bigger of the three, Aaron was shredded and has a smaller structure and the guy in third was real wide(as was boris in 4th) they all looked sharp, judges call.

Personally I though the guy in 2nd would get the nod, but thats BBuiding it's so subjective. The 2nd placed athlete was very gratious in defeat. Good sportsmanship.
