You looked good Grego.

I attended the show and thought it wasn't too bad. Well done to those who got up on stage.

Cheers, I had some fun and got some good feedback!

Yeah well done Greg! You were looking pretty good that night!

Those juniors and teen did look pretty good in terms of muscle mass. Apparently didn't do much of a prep either - two of them were eating butter chicken and drinking mirinda a week out from the comp. How I wish I could do the same and not blow out side ways!

the teen winner did the powerlifting show the next day at uni gym, said he didnt do any dieting whatsoever came in at 89kgs, hoping for 75ish at nationals

the 2nd place teen-well none of his friends even knew he competed/was going to compete so that says it all basically

good cond for not much effort

Yeah, I heard him say something about a powerlifting show the next day! Do you know he went? I'd like to see what a bit of effort will do for his conditioning :-s

True, Teisina told me the same sort of things out the back and I told him he should probably decide what he wants to do, one or the other. I know at the moment he can do ok at both, but to excel in either would require a sacrifice. More the body building than power lifting. Funny, he said "did you diet for this comp?" LOL, I let it slide, but brought it up later and gave him a bit of stick, "Are you serious?" ha ha, nice light hearted fun.

yeah he hasnt got the formalities of powerlifitng down yet-failed a few of his lifts just for teeny tiny mistakes like lifting his head up in bench

i think he did a 170kg squat, and a 130kg bench, didnt stay for the deads

agreed-he should choose-the boys i went to support are serious serious about powerlifting (though have bodybuilders bodies-im trying to get them to compete) and they wont sacrifice one for the other; they say theyll only decide to compete after their powerlifting season is done and dusted (leaving about 7-8weeks diet)

if Tesina does step up to the Nationals plate this year i hope he goes whole hog, will be interesting to see, if he reaches his bodyweight target, what he'll look like as he was looking fairly solid at the plifting

Lol I agree and it would be good to see them decide which way to go. Although, I'd like to see Teisina take his bodybuilding that much more seriously. I'm no bodybuilding guru, but I'd like to think I'm right in thinking he actually has some serious potential.

I met him at the counties last year, good guy.

I remember talking toMike Pohila about Tesinas's potential and I think at the moment he's in that fortunate position to be able to try both sports without having to choose too soon.

Great genetics too, such a small waist and the ability to put on size with it will mean he will have a great look the more he sticks with it.

Hey Darryl!

Small waist? I have competed at around 6 comps where he has been there, and must admit, while he is doing well for a youngster, he always comes in similar everytime, in which case, the judges will notice and likely to "mark him down" if you know what I mean.....

Also, like it or not - If he continues with the dead lifts, his waist will only get thicker.

Still, bottom line when you are his age, go hard and have fun aye.

Yeah Greg, you are right Heavy/ Low rep deads can definately thichen the spinal erectors (good) and waist (bad).

I'm sure he had a naturally pretty slim waist when I saw the guy last yeah but could have the wrong guy :? Could be a case of mistaken identity.

I think with the younger guys they are attracted to the hard training and getting bigger aspect of the sport (which is crucial)and generally learn the art of staying leaner as they get more into it/more experienced, although some get ripped from the get go, after all it is a good age to get lean fairly easily.

What - a thick waist? Don't you mean lower erectors? I know Aron Noble from Hastings does dead lifts - one of the main movements everyone should be doing to get quality mass. And as we all know - Aron hasn't got a thick waist!!! Get it right Greg! Sheeze

Hi Ann,

I know Aron also, he has often trained at Starr where I reside and he is an awesome athelete. We have had quite a few chats. Last time I saw him was after I finished competing at the NABBA HB show 2008.

But sorry Ann, The high weight, low rep training that a power lifter does, will over time, and or course depending on the individual make changes not suited to body building. Anyone knows that. We are talking about 1 rep maxes a hell of a lot of weight. Does Aron do 1 rep maxes? Hmmm.....don't think so.

Thanks for your input though....

Na you have the right guy. He is always competing with his uncle, the ultimate "competition powerhouse" Micheal Pouhila.

Also, he did have a good waist, I was just saying overtime, he will develop a different physique not suited to body building with the heavy type of training they do, but I guess it's something that can be changed. Geez, not to bring this back to me, but you should see by "before" pics!

Ditto on the training for the youngsters, take a look at Scott Payne from Auckland champs. He told me out back he'd done a couple of comps when he was 15, and at 36, he's come back! He was awesome!

Well one max reps - perhaps - overtime maybe - but not deadlifts alone...Next time you may need to say what you mean.

Er...OK Ann. Everyone else on this post knew what I meant, perhaps next time, I should explain things better in a seperate section just for you. - OWNED!

You could be a little more "constructive" with your feedback, instead of jumping down my throat. Do you even know me?

If you wanted to do something construtive, you might like go to the "Hair 2 Go" in Hastings there, you can purchase a raffle ticket @ $2 a ticket (or $10 a book) to help support my cause to raise funds to get to the World Champs in Spain? Great prizes!

I enjoy this sport, and constantly mention that while I am "not a personal trainer" that I understand how things work for my body but enjoy helping where I can. I have lost over 30kg and kept it off \:D/ , and not only that, I have wound up being a competitive body builder in the process. :phear: I don't believe I am better than anyone else, and I from my journey to get where I am, you could kind of paint a picture of where I am coming from. Anyway, this post wasn't about me.

One last thing though Ann, you are welcome to have the last word, as I don't know you and I hardly wish to argue with you as I don't desire to have any enemies, especially with text on a website forum.

Actually Greg there were only two people who may have known what you mean't - so you didn't need to give me a whole lot of dribble that was irrelevant to what you said originally! Owned - your a real comedian mate - perhaps you should do stand up comedy.

And yes I do know who you are and I have seen you compete, and to be honest with you - I couldn't wait to see you get off stage!! Please note - that swords do not belong on stage - this is bb not Braveheart - now OWN that!!

You may not like what I say - but I'm being honest here - and yes - good for you for being chosen to go to Spain, but in all reality - NABBA - the REAL NABBA is where it's at - when you hit that stage in England - then you can say that you have competed against the best.

Hmmm.... Thought I would leave it there, as I kinda in a way said I didn't want to enter into something like this, but righto...

I wasn't at my best at HB, and still are are we ever? You obviously were as you were too good to compete at a regional show...

So at HB 08 You were in the crowd. Easy to be critical from the cheap seats. Not that I have to justify myself to you, but before you "run your mouth" take a look at my latest pics, I am improving, because you don't just get out of bed and become the best body builder you can be overnight. I obviously didn't do to bad as I came 3rd overall at the HB show. Even I look back on my previous pics and think "what was I up to?", but you need to do that to improve. Obviously you are a negative person, whereas I am not.

So you have never had to think of a routine? Surely you would have thought outside the square. Also, oh, hang on Phil Musson NZ Mr Athletic 2005, sword routine anyone?

Oh, you mentioned REAL NABBA, so you are either part of a toxic NZFBB (not everyone guys, just the ones who go on about the politics like it's their life rather than just doing what's best for the sport) or an Australian, or get cheap flights to Australia. Because this is the only NABBA we have in New Zealand so I am going to the competitions. Mind you, we had your support last year, as you purchased a ticket. Also, if you had been to a Worlds competition, you would know that many countries, including some of the Athletes from UK, go along - France, Greece, Germany, Morocco, Algeria....

Ann, really, this just isn't worth the fight. You win.

Incidentally, for everyone who is on this forum - I would be happy to compete in an NZFBB competition as I am happy for any drug test to be performed on me anytime anywhere. I chose NABBA initially due to the fact they came to Napier, my home town. Now I have made friends for life from this sport that I find so awesome.
