now we know natural lifters dont have distended guts with abs so hes either got a genetic disorded or hez on gear and who the f*ck can bench 80kilo dumbells naturally

Dude, unless youve met the guy personally or seen him in the flesh, its not nice to spread rumors like that true or not -and if it is bs you're just spreading it further. Most rugby players I have seen in the gym wouldnt know their elbow from their a@$%hole, let alone what hard training is and what it can do for somebodys physique. Go figure :roll:

it aint no rumor bud just the fact that our sportsppl may not be natural puts people in a spin I dont believe gear shuld be used in sport because not everyone else is but duz it matter we still cant win either way hahaha

Sorry I still think not a very good way to make a point.

I dont deny that sportspeople are on gear - in fact probably some that would surprise you BUT how would you feel if people spread it round that you were using and you werent?!

In saying that I think it would only be fairly common practice at the top levels of team sports in NZ, most team sports players that I have come in contact with as a trainer etc wouldn't have a clue about weight training or nutrition, there training is once a week with the team and there nutrition is a few jugs in the club rooms afterwards.

That is why I have little respect for the dedication of team sports players in this country in gerenal, there will always be the few exceptions who train hard eat right and they are probably the ones who will eventually make it to the top.

The rugby boys (Provincial & Super Franchise players) that we share a facility with have it under wraps with good Strength & Conditioning advice (Trainer has Oly, PLing, Wrestling background / interests). They seem to train pretty hard (harder than most BBers I've seen anyway) although on occasion I've seen a few of the younger ones cut corners.

I guess I would agree with you about the majority of team sports players, however in saying that I'd apply the same statement to the majority of BBers, PLers as well.

Maybe the top tier rugby (franchise and above) are a better comparison to higher level BBers when talking about training intensity. Still need to remember that performance to them is focused on what they achieve in 80 minutes on the field, not the weights they bench press.

it can be taken as a compliment until u are 'straight up' with them and say 'ur not on it' and they dont believe you, then u dont get the credit for workin as hard as you have to get that far naturally :?

Exactly! Ive had it said to me several times and when you say 'no' they dont believe you and so you arent really getting any credit where credits due...and it must be to have you get their attention in the first place. Go figure...

just with the other topic about how much u can gain "naturally" i was reading this report about a league player how he has bulked up during the off season :
Darren Lockyer is hoping reports Melbourne destroyer Greg Inglis has muscled up don't spell a bruising comeback in Saturday night's pre-season showdown at Stockland Park on the Sunshine Coast.

Inglis has packed 6kg on to his athletic frame during the off-season while also lowering his skin fold.

"He's never looked better, he's turned into a machine, he's massive" said a Storm official impressed with the new-look 107kg Inglis.

i no it doesnt give accurate figures but they say his skinfolds are lower and he gained 6kg muscle in one off season...

When Greg Inglis and Israel Folau came onto the scene in the NRL they were both still in their late teens. Its been a few years now but since their debut they both have added size and I dont see this changing much over the next few years either. They are both over 6ft 3 as well so theres alot of room for additional size. Add to this their youth, their training regiment, their diet its no surprise that Inglis is heavier but whether or not he maintains that 6kg gain (from the off season) to the end of the 2009 season will be the test.

That amount of extra weight at that level of the game is the difference between being a center and a being moved to the second row.

Haha, this is always a touchy subject.

I know of a few boys in the pro rugby/league levels who gear up like shit off season. You think those K1 boys are natural too? A close friend of mine is a pro fighter, his coach has pissed in the cup for him many a time to satisfy the sponsors... who at the end of the day want to see a freak show, not guys a 'little' bit larger than those on the rugby or grid iron field smash it out.

Reality is at the top end of many sports people will take the risk to keep their income at the level it is. Weither it be to recover from an injury (6 weeks from knee reconstruction to playing top level foot ball sound familiar :lol:), or as mentioned above to pack on the extra size and strenght they need to be competitive.

Remembering that even Hollyfield got busted taking insulin... along with a fair few others. Skill was the predominant factor in their success, but that alone may not have been enough to set them apart by so far to average Jo.

Ive been reading this thread with alot of intrest. Im a league fan as I played the game since i was 5years old till i was about 23. Me and my league mates knew from a young age that league and weight training go hand in hand and we started pushing weights at a young age, i started at 13 with the basic movements...Bench,pull ups,up right rows,squats,dips,curls etc...was benching 100kg at age 16...started taking supplements at 17, started doing bb weights in the off season and then start the league weights just before pre-season alot of us were training like that and a few of us had very good builds at that age. Now i take note of rookies when they come on to the scene and quite alot of those lads arent blessed with a robust frame, then you see them the next season and man have they put on the muscle, quite a few ive seen have gone fron skinny athletic builds to being able to see thickish and seperated traps and shoulders and thicker chest through there jerseys not to mention noticely bigger legs and even there face changes dramatically, now i know that doing rugby and league weights dosent build muscle like that- that fast, its more explosive movements way less reps and sets that usually revolve around super sets and made up of alot of power lifting movements like power cleans which are such an important exercise for sports training.

Now my point is that when i was growing up our off season was about twice as long as that of todays professonal players and me and a few of my freinds trained hard all off season on the bodybuiding weights and the supplements and ok diet and we didnt gain like i see some of these guys gain in half the time and i bet they werent doing bb weights in the gym.I think it maybe possible for some under those circumstances but some of those kids i see coming through there body type is not ideal for putting on that type of muscle. I had a friend play in the melbourne storm squad a while ago and he said his room mate was on the gear in the off season and tried to talk him into it so yeah it maybe more widespread than we think!
