Rice is pretty cheap

5000kcals is a sh*tload of rice DP!!! :P

I'm kinda struggling with the $$$ people spend on supplements here, not because I can't afford to spend what I like on them, but because I can't see anyone geting massive results for their money - it begs the question if you want it so bad you're prepared to spend over $100 week on it why not ensure you'll get results by using pharmaceuticals? Those using hundereds of dollars worth of unregulated supplements are possibly risking more healthwise than someone using gear sensibly (comments from someone more qualified than myself in this area please??).

I'm only using 3 shakes a day (fonterra bulk whey), multi, fish oils and iron tabs. Cant be more than $40/week? Consistently getting bigger, stronger, albeit rather slowly!!

I would be in the $190 bracket.

Simply put, i've seen a lot of naturals far surpass what they were told was genetically possible in a given time-frame. By using proven supplements, to create a hell of a better anabolic environment during training, and out.

I can't argue with the results i've had from whey protein alone. My 1st year of training i maybe ate meat 4-5 times a week, (not 4-5 times a day, like now) the rest was whey shakes.. Not so good i know now. But damn i put on muscle fast. I'm talking a solid 8kg, maybe more. See my bodyspace for pictures of that.

So my point is, if you're trying to achieve a top physique. Why not use top notch supplements proven not only by the test of time, but also by clinical studies? ;)

In the last five years i would have put 150k into my body, that isn't including food

I've had pros tell me there bodys owe them millions

f*ck that makes me feel better :D

Back in the day, eating junk food, I prob spend more than a hundred a week making my body look like absolute crap...now I'm spending less to make it look, if not good, then at least better than before.

You're completely dismissing the many reasons people don't use gear. Dont underestimate the huge social stigma of using. Its not all about the money.

Plus you get to many people who jump on the gear wagon way before they are even close to peaking naturally.

I wasn't dismissing the reasons at all, it just doesn't add up in my mind. I guess there is a stigma associated, unfortunately around here it appears to be a negative stigma if you're not on the gear!!! :P

My point was if you're spending $150 per week, which is nearly a house deposit a year (well in a shite suburb anyway!), and you are gaining 2/8 of fuckall whilst still putting your system under pressure with all kinds of unregulated crap, would it not be a better option to take 1ml of test a week? (I'm picking that'll cost you between $10-20 per week, correct me if I'm wrong?) Add some basic supplements (maybe $20-50 per week) and you'd be almost be guaranteed results and probably be better off healthwise??

Again, I'm hardly qualified to claim the above is fact, I just wanted some healthy debate on it!

As I said earlier I'm happy spending my < $40 / week on supps, and I'm still growing & getting stronger (slowly!). Would $150 / week of supplements make a difference to me, answer is in all honestly I dont know? However having trained for nearly 2 decades I have been through the earlier generation of crappy supplements that did f-all, before taking a more conservative approach from about 1997ish onwards. I wonder how many spending big $$$ are just repeating my pre-97 experience? (I must admit the marketings better now & if even half the claims are correct some of these products must be fantastic!!!).

Anyway rant over.... On another note I am neither anti-gear or pro-gear (I've got good friends at both extremes of these camps, I just choose to sit on the fence, usually slinging shit at both parties! :P ), but I strongly agree with your point about people jumping onto the gear before they've reached anywhere near their natural potential - but when you've got the benefit of longevity like me you'll know these folk never last long, a new bunch every year!!!

What was the original post about again........

LMAO - had this conversation with a friend yesterday. How many Pro's actually break even every year?? I would say not many, if any!!

Those with big Weider contract and other major endorsements maybe...... just!

Reality is a real deal show must cost tens of thousands minimum, I've heard figures between $30 - 70K thrown around in NZ, and whats the prize money? Think I'll be telling my kids to play Rugby, Tennis, Golf! :pfft:

Kinda sits with an earlier thread - about doing it for the love of the sport - unfortunately it shouldn't be like that at the Pro level!

I bought my protein powder in bulk... but it probably works out at about $12-15 p/w.

All I can afford after getting the getting the most important supplement: FOOD

I'll make this my last post on this topic (really need to do some work!!) but food is one thing that has missed out in this topic.

Although I spend very little on supps I eat a power of food! Our grocery bill was $450 last week & most of that was mine! Main costs were in protein sources - chicken breasts, tuna, chop chop, steak, and litres of milk & yoghurt. Fruit & veges are adding up too - have to get my garden sorted, the chooks are great as eggs are now free and on demand!

One question for the big spenders, are those spending $150+ in supps replacing some food costs with supp costs??

Bloody hell is that $450 a weeks of groceries?

At the end of the day we are mostly pissing your money away wasting it on supplements. Isn't bodybuilding 70% diet 30% weights (or there abouts) and what sort of genetics you have? If you eat clean (good protein sources), eat like a monster and train like a machine you will get results.

I use protein powder, creatine, vitamins and try other bits and bobs now and then just for shits and giggles.
