Short people have it so easy!

Recommended Posts

I don't think it's an advantage to be neither tall, nor short when it comes to this sport.

For sure, vertically challenged individuals, compared to a taller speciman with the same muscle mass, will definitely look blockier & bigger because of their height, but they have done the same hard yards as the taller person to get to where they are.

My partner is 168cm's tall and looks like he's eaten something that's made him swell up, but I think he looks AMAZING!

I reckon that shorter ppl have an advantage msucle wise.....

Liike sum1 posted b4 - add 5 kgs of muscle to sum1 5ft1 and it would be really noticeable, add 5 kgs to someone 6ft1 however and they wouldnt look that much different. ...

Taller people are actually vertically challenged muscle wise cos their muscles are longer than someone of shorter stature.

Short athletes hold muscle in a different way to tall athletes. Tall people have an advantage because they can sometimes create an illusion of looking bigger due to their height...while short people hold muscle in a more astetically pleasing way, but can often look quite a bit smaller compared to their taller counterparts....especially on stage.

A perfect example is the Auckland champs back in 2001 I think it was, when Lon Alexander went up against Mike Allsopp-Smith for the overall title. Lon was considerably shorter than Mike, and slightly bigger, but the height difference made Mike "look" bigger than Lon.

However, when you got down to the nitty-gritty and compared them delt-to-delt, back-to-back, chest-to-chest, and quad-to-quad, Lon's muscles were bigger and rounder than Mikes...hence Lon took the title that year, even though he looked smaller due to the height difference.

I thought i was on the wrong track. The original question was:-

Is it easier for people with shorter limbs to lift heavier weights?

I'm not sure that asks if a furry gorrilla is nicer to look at than a Baboon...the one with the shorter levers has the advatage though so far as lifting weights is concerned.

I'd be a lucky Gorrilla I guess...though you'd hardly think so.

  • 3 weeks later...

yea well overall if your serious about bb or getting big id prefer to be taller than short. for the reason that you can put muscle on if your really serious but if your short you can't grow no matter how hard you try.

{although havnt tried stretching myself} :P

PS: arnold was 6"2 and lou was 6"4 two icons in bb.

Franco Columbu

Mr Olympia 1981

Height: 5' 5" (bout 1.65m)

Weight: 185 lbs (bout 84kg)

Just one example that shows no matter how tall you are, you can defintly grow and kick ass.
