Lats getting bigger...

I'm now finding my lats are getting wider after some priority training.

See pic here from a few weeks back (they are bigger now!):

The side effect I'm finding is they are getting in the way when I walk!

I mean my triceps are sitting on my lats now when I stand with arms by my side and rub when walking (arms swaying).

I guess I shouldn't complain but how many of you guys have 'developed' this 'issue' and do you get used to it?

I stopped fitting in a bucket seat when I was 15 !!

anyway,

Ill bite, so whats this priority training that you're doing for your lats thats making them grow like weeds ?

Well I never bothered much with back training in the past. Just lat pulldowns really and even then I was using to much biceps. I decided I needed more width.

Now it's pulldowns with an emphasis on contraction and a lighter weight, Chins (assisted), one arm dumbbell rows and T-bar rows. And yes they seem to be growing like weeds, must be a strong body part.

So InZane you want to get those lats even bigger then perform them in a very upright position. This targets the hell out of the terres major & ifraspinatus in the upper back above the lat tie ins, & pushes your V out even more. Symmetry is what BBin is about so lat spread is important. Top this off with hard hitting rear delt work & lateral delt work & you got width to die for.

Agreed! Also by hitting them upright, you will get more development where the lat inserts (lower back) to give you that 'winged' look. ;)

Remember, using a close grip will target your lats. Using a wide grip will target your mid back more. Alot of guy's don't realise this, and wonder why their lat width is not what they'd like it to be. :pfft:

Cheers! :D

For back thickness Ive got to say nothing can beat deadlifts and 1 arm db rows...

however, a while ago I started focussing on the negative of Lat Pull downs.. when returning the weight, I do it under control, such that at any moment I could stop and go the other way. The last 10 - 12" of the motion, I focussed on flaring my lats... its literally stretched growth in to me.

When you boys say focus on the vertical do you mean dont let yourself lean bak when your doing lat pull downs?

So chins should be done with a close grip, (to create width) but not as close as you'd go to target biceps? :-s

Vertical, as in stay fairly upright if you want to focus on the insert and lower lats. Yeah, so no swinging, unless you're going for upper lat/midback development.

Chins, - parallel grip, or ie. just in slightly. And no not so close that you are working your bi's. You should be able to feel your lats during chins. ;)

Pull-downs, - for close grip, triangle or close grip handle. Using ropes is good also.

we had an esp moment there, I thought it you said it.

I pissed myself, an old mate of mine had some young ILS sufferer say the same thing when he asked him about it, then put him straight that Jamie and I can walk with straight arms.
